Remember Ubisoft's Project U? The renowned game developer and publisher first confirmed this project back in September 2022, opening Closed Beta registrations right away and sharing preliminary PC system requirements.
A couple of weeks later, the first leaks appeared, and insider Tom Henderson shared some details on Project U. Players will be able to select one of four classes, including Attacker, Defender, Medic, and Support, which will be equipped with unique abilities. The goal is to work together to progress toward the center of the map by completing a series of objectives, such as capturing areas, defending targets, and, of course, defeating AI-controlled foes. Interestingly, Henderson mentioned the game is powered by the open source Godot Engine instead of Ubisoft's own Anvil or Snowdrop engines.
Now, Ubisoft has shared a public notice that a new closed test will take place in early February (1-6) for PC (via Ubisoft Connect) in Europe and North America. The page says:
A New Kind of Massive Co-Op Shooter
Codename "Project U" is a new kind of session-based cooperative shooter in which players unite in massive battles against overwhelming legions of machines.
Registration is open now, and there's also a chance to be selected for a short technical test (lasting 1 to 2 hours) scheduled to take place before the closed test.
Ubisoft shared the updated PC system requirements for this build of Project U:
MINIMUM
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or AMD Radeon RX 570 8GB
RECOMMENDED
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT
Audio will be in English only, while interface and subtitles will be available in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and German. Keep in mind that this Project U closed test will still be under 'strict NDA', so you won't be able to post impressions or capture screenshots/videos.
Will this turn out to be another Hyper Scape? It's hard to say at this point. Other Ubisoft projects like Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland and XDefiant have been supposedly on the verge of launching for quite some time, yet they're still not out.

The much delayed, rebooted, and delayed live service pirate 'em up Skull And Bones actually pencilled in a release date not long ago. Just when you thought it couldn't get any more remarkable, Ubisoft have also announced it'll get an open beta before it launches. In only a couple of weeks, you'll be able to sail the seven seas with a purple rarity cannon firing off common rarity cannon balls that you bought off a rank 25 landlubber with your Skullbucks. Cool!

For some time now, fans of survival games have had their eye on Enshrouded, the new game from the makers of Portal Knights that’s a little bit Zelda, and more than a little bit Valheim. Well, following a Steam Next Fest demo, Enshrouded has officially launched via Steam Early Access. You can check out an Early Access launch trailer, below.

Roots Of Yggdrasil - an inkwashed, roguelikey, card-playing, turn-based citybuilder, inspired by Norse myth - shot to the top of my wishlist after I read Katharine's preview last week. And look, here it is in Early Access. Roots isn't one of your traditional, SimCity-derived town sims in which you steadily colonise a single map (at least, until you lose patience with your glittering urban creation and press the Godzilla or Hurricane button). As per the roguelike element, it's a game about being on the run.
Nexus Mods will not host Pokemon mods for Palworld out of a fear of legal action from Nintendo.
Half Mermaid, led by Sam Barlow, is known for making video games using FMV, and they often require the player to sort through footage to solve mysteries. But for the studio's next projects, it seems the mystery will begin before the games are even announced – today, two Steam listings were posted on Half Mermaid's developer page, but most of their information is redacted.
If you feel recent roguelite games have been missing that platform fighter touch, Spiritfall is here to answer the call. Developer Gentle Giant’s action game takes notes from Super Smash Bros., Brawlhalla, and similarly hectic platform fighter fare, and it’s set to launch in full on February 28, 2024.
Spiritfall, a fast-paced roguelite action game with combat inspired by platform fighters, will leave Early Access and launch for PC via Steam on February 28, developer Gentle Giant announced.
Total sales for open-world survival crafting game Palworld have surpassed two million units 24 hours after its Early Access launch, developer Pocket Pair announced.
