Frogwares takes over publishing duties on The Sinking City

A new report claims that the full title of DS2 is, in fact, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. I would not believe it if not for the fact that we're talking about a Hideo Kojima game here, and the name seems to be a reference to a 64-year-old film.

These days, a “water cooler” conversation can flare up and burn out in days. It’s rare to see any movie or TV show still spark any kind of unifying online discussion more than a week after its debut on a new platform, or after the final episode airs. For every Barbie or Oppenheimer or Barbenheimer, where critics, fans, reactors, streamers, podcasters, and others keep talking about the project for months after its debut, there are dozens of Netflix shows where the conversation stops after release weekend, or would-be blockbusters that make some money at the box office, but that viewers seem to have forgotten before the final credit rolls.

Lovecraftian horror game The Sinking City is now back on PC storefronts following a dispute with its original distributor.

VVVVVV was part of the initial wave of indie platformers, which means it was released in 2010 and is now a certified classic. To celebrate its 14th birthday, developer Terry Cavanagh has dropped an update which makes it Steam Deck verified and professionally translates it into 21 new languages.

Had things gone differently, Frogwares’ The Sinking City would’ve trucked neatly along as one of the many decent but imperfect gaming renditions of Lovecraft’s works. Though this wasn’t meant to be, the developer is now finally in control of the game, with good news for its immediate future.

I remember when The Old World, long one of Games Workshop’s most interesting creations, died in 2015. Inspired by the dashing tin soldiers used to recreate battles from the era of Napoleon, the sword-and-sorcery setting was home to the British company’s flagship Warhammer Fantasy Battle game for decades. But that game and nearly a dozen other tabletop products — beloved spinoff titles like Warhammer Quest, Man O’ War, and even cult classic Mordheim — simply ceased to be relevant after an in-fiction apocalypse called the End Times brought about the Age of Sigmar. Now, nearly a decade later, the classic setting is back with a new game called Warhammer: The Old World, arriving in stores later this month.

Ukrainian developer Frogwares has emerged victorious following a lengthy legal battle with then-publisher Nacon over the Lovecraftian detective game The Sinking City. Frogwares is now the sole publisher of the IP across all platforms, and this development hopefully signals the end of the tumultuous tale.

I’m sure you recall The Sinking City. The game launched back in 2019 under development team Frogwares. At the time, this game was published through Bigben Interactive, now known as Nacon. However, the game had a rocky start in the marketplace due to a dispute between the development team and the publishers. That resulted in quite a cluster, forcing the game to be removed from digital marketplaces. Now, the dust has finally settled, and Frogwares has retained full publishing rights for their game. We might be several years since this title launched into the marketplace, but Frogwares hopes you might be interested in returning to this survival horror experience.
