Petroglyph Games have announced the sequel to its 2016 real-time strategy game 8-Bit Armies, 9-Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far. In the sequel, players command military forces across diverse battlefields, waging strategic warfare across land, sea, and air. The game offers a new sort of pixelated pyromania, allowing players to deploy airborne units, demolish bridges, and unleash powerful superweapons.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is out today on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. The first-ever RTS in the Warhammer universe is from Frontier Developments, widely known for titles like Elite Dangerous. The new RTS offers four factions, a single player campaign, and multiplayer modes.

Paradox Interactive has announced that its upcoming Star Trek RTS, Star Trek: Infinite, will be releasing for PC and MacOS on October 12. 

SEGA has announced that the popular World War II Strategy RTS Company of Heroes is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Feral Interactive is handling the port which will be officially named Company of Heroes Collection. Unfortunately, the collection does not include Company of Heroes 2 or Company of Heroes 3, but instead will feature the original CoH and both of its expansions; Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor. While no specific release date was provided, the release did confirm a release for this Autumn.

Songs of Silence is a beautiful RTS. You can forget the staid, drab medieval fantasy of many other real-time strategies, and revel instead in the excesses and bold brushstrokes that the team at Chimera Entertainment have crafted. It’s painterly – the team label it more specifically as Art Nouvea – with character portraits that are reminiscent of a vibrant and vivacious Banner Saga, while its city building and RTS-like combat, are bold and colourful. This sumptuous display not only catches your eye, and your imagination, it draws you completely into the world of Songs of Silence.

Moonlighter ended up being one of my favorite roguelikes of 2018 – and, per our Moonlighter review, one of the better games of the year – so it's exciting to see its developer unveil a new game, especially when that game involves Lego. 

Stormgate is a game that wants you to have a good time, whatever your experience level may be. Developer Frost Giant Studios, which includes minds behind some of the best RTS games including StarCraft 2 and Warcraft 3, is intent on building a game that everyone can enjoy. Whether you’re a long-time strategy veteran, or completely new to the genre, Stormgate wants you to know that you’re welcome, and PCGamesN spoke to assistant game director Brett Crawford about how it’s achieving that goal.

It's a mouthful, but Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is looking like a solid real-time strategy game for PS5 players, and it takes the field on 17th November. We got a new trailer and a better look at gameplay, with Realms of Ruin being developed in tandem for both PC and console.

For any RTS fan of the late 90s and early 2000s, Homeworld remains absolutely legendary. At the time it pushed boundaries for 3D graphics in the genre, it came with defining controls that enabled fully 3D play in the zero-G void of space, and it featured sweeping narratives of ancient civilisations, rediscovery and destiny amongst the stars. Let’s just say two decades has been too long of a wait for Homeworld 3.

I didn't have much hope for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. Homeworld is an epic, star-spanning tale of survival and triumph amidst the blackness and mystery of interstellar space; Deserts of Kharak, on the other hand, is locked into a single dusty world by the combined forces of gravity and insufficient technological advancement. How could that possibly compare?

There's a new real-time strategy game blowing up on Kickstarter, and while it's most obviously inspired by Starcraft, it also adds RPG elements from games like Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect.

Mark your calendars for November 17th, strategy fans, as that's when Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin is heading to PC - the same day as Atlus' Persona 5 Tactica, don't you know? Announced at tonight's Gamescom Opening Night Live show, Frontier Developments also showed off the game's new single-player Conquest mode, a procedurally generated series of challenges that will pit players against increasingly unpredictable combat scenarios, as well as its third playable faction: the wraith-like Nighthaunt. They'll be going up against the Stormcast Eternals alongside the Orruk Kruleboyz in the game's campaign, and I got to see them in action ahead of tonight's showcase. And I can confirm: they're a nasty bunch of spectral rags, this lot, especially when they pile on in large numbers.

If you've been keeping an eye on Stormgate, the upcoming free-to-play RTS being made by former Starcraft II and Warcraft III devs, then its big bads, the Infernal Host, will probably be familiar in name, if nothing else. But during tonight's Gamescom Opening Night Live show, we got our first proper look at this demonic alien faction, as well as three of the units that will be at our disposal on release. And sure, the worker Imp and its long ears will no doubt appease the Grogu fans out there, but my personal highlight is the creepy flesh monster, the Brute. It looks rightly horrific, with its pair of grinning maws and glistening, pale skin, but at the tap of a key, it will rip itself down the middle in a mess of blood and gore so that two Fiends can burst forth Alien-style to continue the assault. It's kinda gross, but also weirdly rad? In any case, I'm into it.

All the genres of yesteryear are coming back to life. We've got CRPGs, point-and-click adventures, and, uh, retro LCD games. Yet RTS games—the only noble genre that lets you send entire battalions charging directly into enemy fire because it's easier than coming up with an actual plan—still feel like they're out in the cold.
