Ten weeks into its existence, Meta Platforms Inc.'s Threads is trying desperately to avoid a fight about what content it allows on its site. After Meta finally added the ability to search for keywords, users looking for posts on several significant topics — such as “Covid” — were surprised to turn up no results. Posts with that word existed, of course, but Meta is making them much harder to find (instead pointing users to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website). To prevent the risk of users finding something potentially dangerous or incorrect on Threads, its competitor to the platform formerly known as Twitter, Meta has decided it is better for them to see nothing at all.

In June, Meta-owned Instagram platform rolled out a feature called Broadcast Channels, where you could join one-way groups of celebrities, influencers, world leaders, and other notable personalities. By joining these groups, you can receive private updates from those who follow them. While other users cannot respond, they can react to the messages. This way, you could have access to these people and what they want to say, without them feeling overwhelmed by the large number of people following them. The feature was intended to give celebrities and people with large numbers of followers a way to directly communicate with them. Now, after a popular reception of this feature, it was added to another Meta app, WhatsApp, and now it has been introduced in India as well.

The world of Social media is getting interesting day by day as the fortunes of many platforms keep changing. While Meta's Threads is facing a harsh active user decline, Bluesky seems to be doing the opposite.
