Share of the Week: Armored Core VI

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon has been out for a couple of weeks now, and some players have already seen the ending and the endings after that one, too. We enjoyed the game, giving it an 8.25 out of 10 – you can read our review here. If you haven’t jumped into From Software’s latest action title yet, though, you might be in luck because a new patch that's now live buffs various weapons and adjusts some boss attacks. 

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have announced the release of Armored Core VI update 1.02 across all platforms. This patch aims to fix several bugs and balance weapon units to increase build diversity in the early and middle part of the game. The developers promised PvP balance changes would be introduced in a future update. We've added the full Armored Core VI update changelog below.

The recent flurry of quality triple-A game releases includes FromSoftware's latest game, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The new installment in the mech vehicular combat game is another hit by FromSoftware, having earned a 9 out of 10 score in Wccftech's review penned by Kai Powell:

As the school holidays wind to a close, and those heady weeks of FIFA games and lengthy RPG sessions fade into memory, my household has had one last gaming hurrah. I’ve been making my way through all of the things I saw at Gamescom, and carried on with some of them when I got home. Wayfinder has become the daily MMO hit, and I’ve been playing with my son in his first true stint of online gaming. Alongside that I’m still playing Baldur’s Gate 3, and I’m probably going to finish up just as the PS5 version appears. Fans were surprised to see Armored Core make a return after being gone for about a decade. The video game franchise saw a triumphant return to the public when it was first unveiled during last year’s The Game Awards event. With FromSoftware working on the game, fans who enjoyed the classic mech franchise were eager to work alongside newcomers who have fallen in love with FromSoftware with some of their latest video game releases, such as their epic hit Elden Ring. Fortunately, the wait has ended for Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, as players can pick up a copy of the game today. 

Mechs are cool. I think it’s just one of those innate facts that we all understand. Give a person a mech suit, let them fiddle around with the kinds of legs, arms, body, and weapons it has, and you’ve got a recipe for success. Armored Core 6 not only has plenty of weapons to choose from, but also different leg types that change the things you can do. Standard legs are jack-of-all-trades, reverse jointed legs are good for jumping, there are legs for hovering, and you can swap out legs for the lower half of a tank, which lets you carry more stuff.

Armored Core fans were in for a real surprise during last year’s The Game Awards. This event Offered a few surprise reveals and world premiere trailers. However, it’s likely that quite a few of us were not expecting this mech franchise to make a surprise return. However, that’s exactly what happened. We were introduced to Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The video game was going to bring this IP back into the limelight after FromSoftware had gained quite the worldwide attention thanks to their series of Souls games along with their biggest hit into the marketplace, Elden Ring.

FromSoftware has released quite a few hits over the years, and they are currently supporting their latest release into the marketplace, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. This mech game franchise has made a big return to the marketplace after being missing in action for the past decade. But now that players can go through this game, the hunt has been on to find the fabled Moonlight Greatsword. It looks like this weapon has finally been discovered, and players up for the challenge can seek this weapon out themselves.

During The Game Awards of 2022, fans were surprised to see that FromSoftware was bringing back Armored Core. The franchise has been dormant for a decade, and fans who wanted to see this IP revived were finally going to receive a brand-new installment. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon has since been released into the marketplace, and this past weekend was its first to be available for fans to enjoy. So those wondering how it did might find this game didn’t have any trouble getting an audience of players through Steam.

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon runs well, for the most part, on PlayStation 5, but it seems like there's a very simple way to make the game run at steady 60 FPS at a small cost in visual quality.
