According to developer IllFonic, it’s also the perfect basis for a video game. IllFonic is no stranger to the world of asymmetrical horror, and its latest endeavor is one of admiration for its source material. Thankfully, it helps that the overall plot and concept of Killer Klowns translate pretty seamlessly to the world of video games.

As a lover of both asymmetrical multiplayer games and horror in general, the idea of Killer Klowns from Outer Space really caught my imagination. Co-developers IllFonic are no strangers to this style of game, having previously tapped into other 80s film franchises and adapted them to asymmetrical multiplayer with Friday the 13th: The Game, Predator: Hunting Grounds, and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

American game development studio Illfonic is no stranger to asymmetrical multiplayer games based on popular properties. In the past few years, it has released games like Friday 13th: The Game and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, which take full advantage of the franchises they are based on to provide fun multiplayer experiences. Following the release of the latter, the developer started working on Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game, another asymmetrical multiplayer game based on the comedic horror movie released back in 1988, which promises to be great fun.

Despite the big-name publisher, the game kind of came and went without too much fanfare, but now it seems IllFonic is preparing the revive the game on current-gen platforms.

Published by Sony for PS4 and PC, it’s coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in late 2024, with IllFonic taking over publishing duties.

The PlayStation console exclusive Predator: Hunting Groundsis finally coming to Xbox later this year, alongside a wave of new content that will stretch all the way into 2025. Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer IllFonic released Predator: Hunting Grounds on PC and PlayStation 4 back in 2020, and it was the first major console title starring the titular Yautja hunter since 2005’s Predator: Concrete Jungle. Just like IllFonic’s Friday the 13th: The Game, Predator: Hunting Grounds is a multiplayer title that pits a quartet of elite soldiers against a single Predator in a cat-and-mouse struggle for survival inspired by the original Predator movie.

The title was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live in 2022 with a cinematic trailer that demonstrated the game's zany, humorous tone and confirmed it would also be taking place in the 80s like its movie counterpart.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is going to be released on June 4th, Illfonic has confirmed. It will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be available to pre-order from today, and those who do will get one week advance access to Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, so the actual release date is May 28th.
