Another Thursday means another rotation on the Epic Games Store. As of this writing, fans can no longer claim sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds or stealth game Thief, but they can grab up cyberpunk action performer Ghostrunner. Between the three is a lot of variety in gameplay styles but also a lot of quality, as each is an excellent game with positive reviews (or a cult following in the case of Thief). Once Ghostrunner rotates out on April 18, fans will be able to claim The Big Con.

The incredibly underrated is free for PC via Epic Games Store, but the offer is extremely limited, and interested players need to run to ensure they can claim it. is a 3D action platformer game released in 2020. The title was developed by One More Level and Slipgate Ironworks and published by 505 Games and All in! Games. The main goal of the game is to traverse through its several levels using platforming skills and survive combats that revolve around the one-hit KO mechanic. This means that if the player is hit, they have to restart that phase.

The Epic Games Store free game for April 11 is Ghostrunner. Epic Games Store users are treated to new free games on a weekly basis, with the offerings rotating every Thursday at 10:00am CT. The Epic Games Store didn't break from this established pattern with the latest free game offerings, with users able to claim two new freebies right now.

Developer One More Level is celebrating the Lunar New Year with an update coming to Ghostrunner 2. The update, set for release on February 8, will bring Chinese VO to the game, along with a host of new content for the title’s Roguerunner.exe mode.

The first Ghostrunner is one of my all-time favorite games, and I've been excited for its sequel, Ghostrunner 2, since its reveal more than two years ago. I didn't need much to be satisfied with another parkour venture into developer One More Level's cyberpunk dystopia; I just wanted more Ghostrunner. And when Ghostrunner 2 is doing what put its predecessor on the map – fast-paced first-person action-parkour gameplay – it shines. But a few new attempts at expanding this world, both narratively and mechanically, don't shine as bright, however interesting and admirable they are. Nonetheless, Ghostrunner 2, with its exceptional action, soundtrack, and beautifully oppressive world, kept me smiling in delight for most of my 15 hours. 

A number of staff have been laid off at 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks - the developers behind Ghostrunner, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem and more - as the game industry devastation wrought by Embracer’s restructuring efforts continues.

Ghostrunner 2 is essentially a cyber ninja simulator. If that doesn’t get you interested, I don’t really know what else to say. You’re telling me you’re not interested in a game where you run across walls while deflecting bullets back at enemies with your cyber katana? Slowing time and manoeuvring yourself around bullets in midair? Slicing up four enemies before they can so much as swing their weapons at you? This is what it means to be a Ghostrunner. That and thumping techno music.

The best sequels are the ones that can recapture what made the original so great, while also expanding those elements to make them feel bigger, grander, and more exciting than what came before. That’s exactly what Ghostrunner 2 manages to pull off. This is still a first person, one-hit-kill slasher where – to quote my review of the first one – you must run fast, slide fast, kill fast, and if you can’t do those things fast enough, you die fast. But now you get to do all of that while also occasionally riding an absolutely sick motorcycle, and with a wider variety ninja tricks to customize your playstyle. Couple that with a much more fleshed out world, excellent level variety, fantastic bosses, and a thumping soundtrack that enhances the action, and you’ve got one of the most exciting action games all year.

Something has always drawn me to games where you only die in one hit. There’s this electrifying sensation that comes with needing to perfect a level or section because dying is the alternative. Ghostrunner managed to capture this feeling while remaining a solid first-person platformer on top of that.

Developer One More Level and publisher 505 Games have pulled back the DLC curtain plans for its upcoming first-person parkour-action game, Ghostrunner 2, ahead of its release next week. As previously announced, all Brutal Edition owners of Ghostrunner 2 will get the Season Pass, which includes all of the DLC announced today. Otherwise, the Season Pass will cost $19.99.

God, Ghostrunner was good. I'd almost forgotten how good until I loaded up the Steam Next Fest demo for Ghostrunner 2, which is just Ghostrunner but with a 2 on the end. Ghostrunner 2 is just a couple of weeks away now, hitting PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 26. Developer One More Level released the first Ghostrunner in 2020, and announced its sequel a year later. We saw some gameplay during a PlayStation Showcase earlier this year. But as fans of the first game know, the series' music is one of its best aspects and we haven't learned much about Ghostrunner 2's soundtrack yet – until now. 

Despite missing it at launch in 2020, I’m in the “Ghostrunner rocks” camp. It knew exactly what it wanted to be and executed its premise brilliantly. I wasn’t sure what to make of Ghostrunner 2 but was excited to play the demo. As much as I enjoyed the first game, I bought it on a deep sale and considered giving the sequel a similar treatment. I hadn’t watched any trailers, and not for a lack of interest. There were too many other games to keep track of, and Ghostrunner 2 slipped through the cracks.

The demo for One More Level and 505 Games’ first-person slasher, Ghostrunner 2, is now available. However, that’s not the exciting bit about it. Back when I first heard of it, I was interested in Ghostrunner. I can't honestly say why because that game style has never been my forte. I'm not good at the ultra-fast hacky-slashy nonsense; for the most part, I'm not good at the fast-speedy-platform lark either. Still, when I did play Ghostrunner, I enjoyed what I could, and there's no doubt that Francesco enjoyed it when he reviewed it and then reviewed the later DLC. I've had a chance to play Ghostrunner 2 now, and I can't stress enough that it has a motorbike.

For my money, no single-player game makes you earn every acrobatic kill quite like 2020’s Ghostrunner. Its fast-paced action platforming was intense and brutally challenging, but wall-running, air dodging, and sliding your way around a room to chop up enemies while dodging their pinpoint counter-offensives felt satisfying when you got it right. Based on my very limited hands-on time with the sequel, its brand of high-speed kill-or-be-killed violence remains one of the most unique and rewarding action game experiences out there, and Ghostrunner 2 wastes no time upping the ante with new tricks to get the edge on enemies, and new ways to challenge your reflexes.

Anticipated sequel Ghostrunner 2 now has a confirmed release date on PS5. The adrenaline-fueled action-platformer will dash to Sony's current-gen console on the 26th October, and you can get a better look at its brand of cyberpunk violence in the new gameplay trailer, embedded above.

I will hold my hands up and say that I didn't get on too well with One More Level's first Ghostrunner game. While its one-hit-kill combat was fast, flashy and infinitely more appealing than some of the other neon lambs being led to the cyberpunk slaughter in the back end of 2020, its precise platforming and marksman-grade enemies made it a hard game to love while you were actually playing it. But having sat down for 45 minutes with Ghostrunner 2 at this year's Gamescom, I'm pleased to report that this is a sequel done right, building on everything you know and (probably) love about the first game, while also ushering in new, optional concessions to help make its still wonderfully gory swordplay much more approachable for old two-left-thumbs-McGee over here. Then there's the motorbike, which… phwoar. Let me tell you about the motorbike.

Publisher 505 Games has revealed that Ghostrunner 2, the sequel to a terrific cyberpunk platformer from 2020, will arrive on October 26th. But lucky for me, publishers 505 Games have announced that Ghostrunner 2 is coming out on October 26th, which is shaping up to be another very busy month for very good-looking games. The original Ghostrunner bashed the first-person parkour of Mirror’s Edge with cyberpunky ninja swords to great success, and the sequel bolts on a rideable bike and a parry system to the winning formula.
