Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the next major release for Capcom, capping off the current fiscal year. It’s garnered attention for its massive world, unconventional mechanics (including restrictions to fast travel) and emergent gameplay. However, it’s also the first title from the publisher to be priced at $69.99, joining the likes of Sega and major Western publishers like Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft and more.

The first few weeks of 2024 have been packed full of major new releases (and a couple of big surprises that came out of nowhere), and the coming weeks look like they’re going to keep that momentum going. Of the games lined up for launch in the near future though, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is perhaps among the biggest ones, and it seems like players might soon get the chance to dip their toes in its waters before the full game launches.

Capcom released a new trailer for Dragon’s Dogma 2 this week, giving players a closer look at one of the series staple vocations: the Fighter.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s director Hideaki Itsuno is not a fan of fast travel in open-world games. In an interview over at IGN, Itsuno affirmed his commitment to making traveling the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 something players look forward to.

Given the fact that the original Dragon’s Dogma is over a decade old, it’s safe to assume that there will be a sizeable portion of the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2’s player base that won’t have much (or any) experience of its predecessor, but according to Hideaki Itsuno – director of both games – the sequel is made to be newcomer-friendly.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is promising to be an absolutely massive experience, and while it doesn’t look like there will be any shortage of excellent content even if you decide to stick to its main story, Capcom is still tucking away a bevy of optional content for players to find and engage with. The developer has unveiled another slice of that – courtesy of a new video by IGN – in the form of Sphinx, a completely optional and mysterious enemy that will test players in entirely unique ways.

The original Dragon’s Dogma was a massive open world experience, and with Capcom promising that its upcoming sequel is going to be even bigger, expectations are certainly high in terms of how much content the game will have on offer, and what sort of quality we can expect from its side content.

As we hone in on our most wanted game of the upcoming year, Capcom have slid into our number three spot with Dragon’s Dogma 2, a wish fulfilling follow-up to the cult classic 2012 original.

Of the many megaton releases lined up for the first few months of 2024, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one in particular that has been generated a great deal of excitement, and Capcom recently streamed a meaty chunk of new gameplay footage for the upcoming open world action RPG.

It's the first time Capcom have sold the base edition of a game for $70 in the US of A, and follows comments this September from a Capcom executive that videogames are priced "too low" these days, based on how much games cost to make.

Doing the actual monster-stabbing was even better, though, and thankfully the sequel’s release date doesn’t seem that far off if a videogame ratings board is to be believed (accidental ratings boards leaks being the way many release dates are revealed these days).

We’ve seen quite a bit of Dragon’s Dogma 2 in recent weeks, and though Capcom has still yet to announce a release date for the open world action RPG, it seems it might not be too far off from launching globally.

Capcom seems to be working on a major upgrade to its RE Engine, which was used in a number of more recent Capcom titles, including Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Monster Hunter Rise, and most recently, Resident Evil 4. As caught by Okami Games, the upgraded engine was spoken about in a new video published on Capcom’s R&D YouTube channel.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game that fans of its predecessor have been waiting for for a long time, and now that the open world action RPG is finally beginning to take tangible shape, excitement surrounding it is continuing to grow. Capcom recently brought the title to Tokyo Game Show, showing off substantial amounts of gameplay that’s looked quite promising, and something that’s caught the eye of many is how closesly the sequel seems to be sticking to the original game.
