In all the furore over Microsoft's record-breaking acquisition of Activision Blizzard, it's almost been possible to forget that Sony recently had a major acquisition of its own – a far cry from the scale of the Activision deal, certainly, and not even a match for the price tag of Microsoft's earlier Zenimax acquisition, but Sony's $3.6 billion buyout of Bungie was a big step for the company nonetheless.

The last time we asked our readership for their opinions on the best printers for the workplace was 2021. Taking a couple of years off gave us time to expand the survey and the coverage. This year, we go beyond basic office printers (no matter what the work setting): We break things down into printers specifically for the office, vs those printers used for work at home.

HBO TV series The Last of Us, inspired by the Naughty Dog series of the same name, has done...something to a lot of the game industry executives I've spoken with in 2023. Interest in adapting video game properties has been growing for a few years, with niche titles like Disco Elysium being scooped up and imminent projects like a Fallout TV show about to land, but the Pedro Pascal/Bella Ramsey-helmed series seems to be sparking a shift at the executive level.

Soda Drinker Pro is an odd one. Created by Will Brierly a hog’s age ago, it eventually made its way to Steam and Xbox One. I was turned onto it back in the day by the relentless enthusiasm of Destructoid grizzled veteran Jonathan “Grizzled Veteran” Holmes. With Unity making an impressive attempt to implode a massive section of the indie development community, Will Brierly has decided it’s time to stick the needle in and get sucking as much cash out of enthusiastic soda drinkers as possible.

In today's world, every business, whether it's a cozy bakery or a home-building venture, relies on digital technology. This connection to the digital world also exposes businesses to cyber risks, threats posed by hackers and other troublemakers. Cyber risk is akin to someone trying to break into your digital space to steal your money, misuse your data, or cause chaos. Unlike physical break-ins, you can't just move to a safer neighborhood online.
The characters in what we might term the Aperture Cinematic Universe are a memorable bunch (as I have said before). Though GLaDOS rightfully tops the list another, introduced in 2011's sequel spectacular Portal 2, became an instant favourite. Voiced by J.K. Simmons, doing a turn adjacent to his J. J. Jameson from Spider-Man, Cave Johnson is the founder of Aperture Science (which used to primarily make shower curtains before it evolved into being a death trap puzzle company), and he made an instant impression. And though Aperture Desk Job is nominally a tech demo for the Steam Deck, it also expands the Cave Johnson lore in a very satisfying way. Spoilers beyond for Aperture Desk Job, and Portal 2 if you haven't played it.

You ever see something so awful that your first instinct is to show it to someone else, so they can share in how awful it is? Even though you know it's probably just going to make their day worse?
Japan's Sony on Wednesday said first-quarter profit tumbled due to weaker performances from its movies and financial businesses.
There was a time, not all that long ago, when movies based on videogames were surefire losers. The reasons varied, but the bottom line was the same: It just never worked out. In more recent times, though, that situation has turned around dramatically: The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a major hit, while The Last of Us—an HBO series rather than a film, but close enough—earned universal critical and commercial acclaim.

Apple’s Q3 2023 earnings call reported that its iPhone division generated $39.67 billion for the three-month period, but that amount was 2 percent lower compared to the same quarter a year ago. While that is still an abnormally large chunk of change, it represents a trend that even the technology giant has noticed and has no choice but to admit; the U.S. smartphone market has been in decline, and it has been this way for a while. Naturally, this will prompt the firm to reduce its dependency on its biggest cash cow, but that is easier said than done.
If films like Heat and Sexy Beast are anything to go by, when you're in the professional heist business, retirement does not come easily. There's always that one last job you get called in to tie up some loose ends, rekindling greed and the drive to plan elaborate robbery schemes within you. With the old gang rounded up, Payday 3 now takes us to the bustling streets of New York City, several years after our reign of terror in Washington DC, masked-up and prepared for new challenges in a present-day environment of mass surveillance gadgets, cryptocurrency, the deep web, and more. Having spent a few hours in the internal playtest, followed by the ongoing closed beta, I must say that I'm truly impressed with how streamlined this sequel is shaping up to be.

AMD has released its Q2 financials and while it is better news than estimates were predicting, it still tells a sorry story for its GPU division. The gaming segment of AMD's business is still profitable, and all that is down to the work it has put into bagging the bragging rights to power both Microsoft and Sony's games consoles.

The GTA Online weekly update for July 27 to August 3, 2023 is upon us, and it’s great news if you love to race, but probably a bit disappointing for everyone else. The Rockstar multiplayer game side of Grand Theft Auto 5 carries on the summer racing event that began last week, and loads up on bonuses for anyone looking to test the fastest GTA 5 cars and bikes, but it’s bad news if you’re hoping to do some business.
