Baldur’s Gate 3 was the biggest winner at The Game Awards 2023, taking home six of the eight prizes it was nominated for.

Baldur’s Gate 3 had a huge night at The Game Awards 2023, winning Game of the Year and then just launching the game on Xbox Series X|S. Surprise!

The Game Awards 2023 are in the bag, and while most people are no doubt talking about all the new trailers, there were, in fact, actual awards handed out! As many expected, Baldur’s Gate 3 walked away the big winner, nabbing Game of the Year and five other trophies, including Best RPG, Best Performance, and the Players’ Voice award. There were times when it seemed like Alan Wake 2 could take GOTY of the year, as it grabbed three awards in major artistic categories, including Best Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction. Beyond those two games, most of the awards were rather spread out, with major games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy XVI, Street Fighter 6, and Armored Core VI only receiving one trophy apiece.

For a while, it seemed like Xbox owners weren’t going to be able to play Baldur’s Gate 3 this year, but eventually, Larian Studios announced the game would arrive on Xbox Series X/S this December after Microsoft gave in and allowed them to cut splitscreen co-op from the Series S version. That said, we didn’t have an exact release date. Well, tonight at The Game Awards, the Baldur’s Gate 3 cleaned up, winning Game of the Year and... it was also quietly released on Xbox without the expected big flashy announcement.

Baldur's Gate III took home the top honour at The Game Awards 2023, held early Friday in Los Angeles, besting its lead competitor Alan Wake II. The Dungeons & Dragons-based sprawling RPG, which was strongly revered by both fans and critics alike, bagged six trophies, including Best Community Support and Best Performance. The latter was collected by Neil Newbon, who played Astarion, the silver-haired vampire spawn, holding our attention with his melodramatic persona and the occasional high-pitched screeches. Meanwhile, Remedy's Alan Wake 2 won four awards across some of the most important categories, with co-directors Sam Lake and Kyle Rowley emerging as the best game directors of the year, alongside a writing/ narrative nod.

After winning big at The Game Awards 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios is now available on Xbox Series X/S. Larian Studios has shadowdropped Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X/S following The Game Awards 2023. This follows months of speculation regarding whether it will launch on the platform at all.

The Xbox Series version of Baldur’s Gate III is now available via Microsoft Store for $69.99, developer Larian Studios announced.

The curtain has closed on another year of The Game Awards, with Baldur’s Gate 3 taking home the top prize – Game of the Year – at The Game Awards 2023.

Immediately following The Game Awards where Baldur’s Gate 3 won the Game of the Year award, Larian Studios released the game on Xbox Series X|S. According to Larian, the Xbox version of the GOTY will include the newly released Patch 5 which is a very substantial update.

More than 1.3 million people have playedand completed Baldur’s Gate 3, according to developer Larian Studios. The majority of those players — 1.24 million, actually — got transformed into a sentient wheel of cheese at some point during their playthrough. That’s a lot of bouncing wheels of cheese! Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on Windows PC and Mac on Aug. 3, and Larian’s latest statistics tell the story of how many people played the wildly popular role-playing game set in Dungeons & Dragon’s fantasy world.

The new patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 is a big one — big enough that Larian Studios says you might want to uninstall and reinstall the game, because downloading the update requires a huge chunk of storage space.
