For a while, it seemed like Xbox owners weren’t going to be able to play Baldur’s Gate 3 this year, but eventually, Larian Studios announced the game would arrive on Xbox Series X/S this December after Microsoft gave in and allowed them to cut splitscreen co-op from the Series S version. That said, we didn’t have an exact release date. Well, tonight at The Game Awards, the Baldur’s Gate 3 cleaned up, winning Game of the Year and... it was also quietly released on Xbox without the expected big flashy announcement.
Yup, that's right, the game is available to download on Xbox right now! Just be forewarned, you may have to call in sick to work tomorrow if you start playing the game now. While we're at it, here's a quick new BG3 accolades trailer.
"Abducted, infected, lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. Forge a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you and your party will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms."
For those who haven’t been keeping up with Baldur’s Gate 3, you can get the lowdown on the game’s latest update, which adds a new epilogue to the game and more, right here. Meanwhile, you can also check out Wccftech’s very positive 9.5 out of 10 Baldur’s Gate 3 review…
“With its engaging story, charming characters, extremely dynamic world that constantly reacts and adapts to the player's actions and choice and a solid tactical combat system, Baldur's Gate 3 is among the best CRPGs ever released. A wonky interface, the lack of some quality-of-life features and Larian Studios' trademark save scumming design impact the experience, but they're only minor issues that don't take away too much from the whole experience. After years in development, Baldur's Gate 3 definitely exceeded expectations in the best possible way.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 can be played now on PC, PS5, and now, Xbox Series X/S. What do you think Xbox owners? Excited to see what all the chatter has been about? Going to jump directly into a bear sex speedrun?
