Qabiha is a clever woman, and the Palace is well protected when Basim seeks to infiltrate it. Doing so without getting caught will be easier said than done, and once inside the Palace, it is quite challenging to leave it without being followed by every Guard in the vicinity.

It's clear to those who have played 2020's and 2023's that Basim Ibn Ishaq will play a major role in the series going forward. Basim was introduced as a master assassin as part of the Hidden Ones — the group that would go on to become the Assassin's Order — in, meeting Eivor's Viking clan and offering to help them expand their operations in Norway and England. The series then went back to Baghdad in the year 861 and depicted a 17-year-old Basim's origin story through a smaller, more stealth-focused title in. Here, players followed Basim as he learned new tactics from his mentor Roshan to take down members of The Order of the Ancients, a clandestine group pulling the strings across Persia.

Still, something new is available now if you own Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The latest installment for the franchise has been around for a little while now, and chances are you have already completed the game. Just last month, we saw a New Game Plus mode being added into the mix. However, this latest update brings a mode that should really challenge your assassin skills.

is filled with puzzles for you to complete and one of the first you will discover is the Upper Harbor Gear Chest. There are a number of quests and puzzles for you to solve throughout your time in Baghdad and the surrounding districts including the Tales of Baghdad Quests.

Players of will soon realize that they will need crafting materials to upgrade their items in the game. These can be found in several different manners throughout the game, but players might not be able to find them consistently, particularly at the beginning of their journey. However, there are consistent methods of finding them, if players know where to look as they traverse the city of Baghdad.

Basim's main weapon in is a sword, so it's important for him to wield one that looks good as he slices and dices through the guards of Baghdad. Unlike other recent titles, alternative weapons like axes or bow aren't present in the game, meaning that one sword or another will remain equipped throughout the entire game. None of the available blades in are entirely lacking in style, but some are more basic than others, making abandoning less glamorous options once others become available to Basim a good call.

A hallmark of any game in the series, Basim must eliminate targets throughout , one of those being Al-Mardikhwar. This target is one of the Order members at the end of the multiple Investigations that began at the Sharqiyah Bureau for the Hidden Ones in Baghdad. Finding and eliminating him will take some creativity from Basim, as well as help from the Rebels.

As you make your way through , playing as Basim, you will be tasked with eliminating several targets with the first major enemy being Al-Ghul.After infiltrating the Damascus Gate Prison early in your attention will turn to eliminating the first of five targets. With the game set in the desert, many of the locations that you will visit are settlements, and Caravanserai set just outside of Baghdad, is the one where you will find Al-Ghul.

There are nine Wilderness Gear Chests scattered around the outskirts of Baghdad in . These chests contain the Hidden One Dagger and Hidden One Sword, as well as their respective Upgrade Schematics. The last three chests contain pieces for the Isu set. Each item from these chests is extremely powerful and boasts a compelling reason to acquire it, but it will be no walk in the park. All the Wilderness Gear Chests are hidden in restricted areas, making it difficult for any assassin to find them.

Daggers play a big role in , so picking the design with the best looks can have a surprisingly major impact on the game experience. Although each dagger has its own unique stats, it's possible to prioritize aesthetics thanks to a transmog system included in the game. Blacksmiths will change a weapon to have the look of another for the reasonable price of 50 dirham, so it's easy to pick a blade that has the perfect perk and make it look like one that offers a little more flair.

takes plenty of inspiration from the earlier games of the franchise, but that doesn’t mean the series is entirely resting on its laurels. Some areas of the game try to evolve the experience in new ways from its original roots, taking a different direction than the trajectory of previous transformations. One aspect that sees some freshening up is the way that treats quests, and the changes in this particular regard are better than any that have come before, fixing some crucial problems that have long troubled the series.

represents a concerted effort by developer Ubisoft to return this once immensely popular franchise back to its beloved roots. In spite of abandoning the controversial RPG-style gameplay of the past several entries in the franchise, maintains an impressive array of customization options — most significantly in the character aesthetic department. Though the latest installment in the series has a limited supply of unique outfits and costumes when compared with previous installments, the developer has evidently elected to value quality over quantity as the vast majority of 's apparel options are exceptionally well-designed — though, inevitably, some are so much better than others.

Different targets to assassinate in are difficult to approach without getting caught, especially the well-defended Treasurer. The influence this figure wields lets them sit at the top of Karkh's web of power, where they tax poor merchants to fund the controlling Order. Their true identity has remained a secret as they approach the Bazaar marketplace in search of a rare Eastern hairpin to add to their collection of seized artifacts.

Looking for the Abbasid Knight Upgrade Schematics across Baghdad in is a perplexing challenge. However, it is completely worthwhile. When out of enemy sight, the Abbasid Knight Outfit slowly regenerates Basim's health, making it ideal for an assassin of his nature. The Abbasid Knight Sword and Dagger that come with the set are also worth picking up. However, the set isn't finished even if you have all the pieces. To properly complete the collection, you must find all the Abbasid Knight Upgrade Schematics scattered throughout the map.

The protagonist Basim is the most recent in a long line of leading player's in Ubisoft's franchise, and stacking him up against the others can reveal how likely it is for him to make a mark. protagonists tend to share some core traits, with a set of skills that let them parkour across rooftops and take down enemies and a link to the Assassin Brotherhood or the HIdden Ones. Basim doesn't necessarily break fundamentally new ground, but he also isn't a carbon copy of any of his predecessors.

may take place in 9th century Baghdad, but there's an Easter egg that will likely remind longtime fans of Ezio Auditore, the famed assassin who lived roughly 800 years later during the Italian Renaissance. During Basim's story in, the Brotherhood of Assassins has yet to be established, still known as its precursor organization, the Hidden Ones. The Hidden Ones would become the Assassins in the following centuries, giving them a shared history, and through this has hinted at the origins of an iconic weapon best associated with Ezio.

Though abandons many of the RPG-orientated elements of the franchise's past few installments, it retains a few excellent features. The Assassin's outfit has been an important part of the franchise since its inception in the mid-2000s — both for exclusively cosmetic reasons and for the perks that come with certain outfits. Although the significance of the protagonist's apparel peaked during the series' controversial RPG phase, the decision of what outfit to choose remains an incredibly important decision in the latest installment, — a significant and welcome return to the franchise's action-adventure roots.

Roshan plays a major role in , and there's a good reason why her distinctive voice is as recognizable as it is. As a Hidden One who trains the protagonist Basim in the arts of assassination and more, Roshan acts as a strong mentor figure in the game. She also serves as a powerful figure involved in undercurrents of resistance in Baghdad, standing up for the oppressed and unheard in a city where staggering splendor and cultural advancements could cover up or even exacerbate the plight of the less fortunate.

Mysterious Shards are a bonus item throughout that can be used to unlock extra bonus items. Players will encounter a Shard early in the game at the end of the tutorial, but it will not be until the end of the first main investigation in Baghdad that players will be able to encounter them again. This will happen when Roshan tells Basim to reconnect with Nehal after he admits that he is troubled by how they parted.

doesn't quite employ the extensive gear systems of its RPG predecessors, but there is still a decent number of options when it comes to what outfit to wear. The wardrobe Basim can collect throughout the game is largely comprised of robes resembling those traditionally worn by the Hidden Ones – often primarily white or off-white and hooded – but some, and particularly some costumes, have a bit more variety, including a few that are definitely more armored than Basim's default attire. The most exclusive outfit in the game, however, is disappointing compared to the verisimilitude offered by most others.

Gear Chests can be found throughout the city of Baghdad in and Basim will want to find and open them as soon as possible to receive the best gear in the game. Gear Chests are located in each region, but they are not automatically marked on the map until Basim spots them. Therefore, learning how to spot and mark them early will be essential.

The Damascus Gate Prison is one of the first fortresses you'll have to infiltrate in as part of the first act of the game's story. Your mission here is to rescue the rebel leader Ali ibn Muhammad, preferably without getting caught by the many guards who swarm this large outpost. There are many ways to break into the Prison, from fighting your way inside to adopting a clever disguise.

Fazil the Great Scholar is one of your targets to assassinate in , found in a large Symposium that can be difficult to infiltrate without getting caught. This leader of the Order of Abbasiyah has been conducting human experiments to try and control dark magics. The perverted knowledge wielded by Fazil must be stopped, but his actions' insidious and hidden nature makes him hard to find.

is, by most accounts, a return to the kind of gameplay that first captured imaginations and sparked interest in the franchise. Since the first game was released in 2007, the series has ventured farther and farther from its stealth-based roots, with (admittedly fantastic) games like much closer to full-on RPGs. Still, the story, characters, and setting still offer plenty that is new.

The ending of puts a satisfying button on protagonist Basim Ibn Ishaq's coming-of-age story, and further ties him the events of its predecessor,. opens with a young Basim, in his ninth-century days as a petty street thief. Plagued by visions of jinni, Basim sets off on a journey of self-discovery. He tries to join the Hidden Ones, a real-life (with many artistic liberties taken) organization of covert assassins, but is rejected. In an attempt to impress them, Basim and childhood friend Nehal try to steal from the Caliph's palace, but when things go south, Nehal winds up killing the Caliph.

will see the franchise returning to the Middle East with a smaller, more stealth-focused title set in 9th-century Baghdad. Its story follows a 17-year-old Basim Ibn Ishaq long before he appeared as a fully-fledged Master Assassin in In, Basim works alongside his mentor Roshan to take down members of The Order of the Ancients, rising up from being a street thief to a member of The Ancient Ones in the process.

Khidmah Tokens in have many uses, but that is not always clear in the early stages of the game. Part of Basim’s journey in Baghdad is learning how to navigate the city while maintaining a good standing among the civilians and hiding from the guards. This can be determined by how Basim interacts with them by using the Khidmah Tokens to earn favors.

Early in , players will be told they need to complete Contracts to earn certain in-game items, such as Khidmah Tokens. These Tokens are essential, but at that point, there will be no easy way to find or locate Contracts and the game does not give any hint as to when these will become available. It is not until a certain quest becomes available that Basim can find and complete Contracts.

has been a return to the franchise's roots, with a smaller, more stealth-focused title set in a stunning recreation of Baghdad in the year 861. The title tells the origin of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character who was introduced in the franchise's last title,, by which time he was already a Master Assassin on his travels to Norway​​​​​.

In , Basim’s Notoriety will change the way you are able to play the game, and it is essential to learn how to decrease that notoriety early. With a high Notoriety, Basim will be easily spotted throughout Baghdad and unable to avoid guards who are furtively searching for him. Fortunately, there are several ways players can decrease Basim's Notoriety throughout the game and ensure he stays unnoticed.

is a triumphant homage to its earliest predecessors, but it still suffers from issues endemic to the series. The stealth action game from Ubisoft Bordeaux is singularly engaging and refreshing in its constricted scope; still, tiresome trends from the series at large return, making key components of its story vapid distractions from its true strengths. While is clearly built upon the back of 2020's, that foundation has been morphed into an experience heavily reminiscent of the original from 2007. is a more than worthwhile entry to the long-running saga in its own right, but it also shows that the original vision of the series still has immense potential.

With the past few games in the series it's felt like Assassin’s Creed has lost a little bit of what made it so special back when it launched in the late 2000’s. Don’t get me wrong: Odyssey and Valhalla were extremely solid RPGs that offered a vast and unique setting and a definite bang for your buck in the runtime department, but there’s something about those games that didn’t necessarily feel necessarily “Assassin’s Creed” due to their hefty open-world settings and heavy RPG gameplay mechanics. Thankfully, the next installment in the franchise is Mirage, and based on my playtime with it so far, it manages to capture what made the series so special and brings the social stealth history simulator back to its roots in the best way possible.

Considering the massive worlds, endless side activities, and propulsive “numbers go up” progression systems of recent Assassin’s Creed games, it can be easy to forget that the series began as a detective game. Assassin’s Creed Mirage seems hell-bent on reminding us.

For some time now, more, more, more has been Ubisoft’s mantra for each new Assassin’s Creed. More content, bigger worlds, deeper RPG systems. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage breaks from this trend, with developers Ubisoft Bordeaux and Ubisoft Montreal aiming to deliver a stripped-down action-adventure experience in line with earlier entries in the series. It’s an approach that’s generated some excitement, particularly from old-school fans, but can you really go back again? Has Ubisoft managed to recapture the feel of those older AC titles, and even if they have, is that a worthwhile accomplishment?

Virtual photography might be a fairly young trend in gaming, but it’s one that’s got a large number of fans, to the extent that games not having a photo mode can often be quite a disappointment for audiences. The folks over at Ubisoft are gearing up to release Assassin’s Creed Mirage. We know the game is coming out in the following month. However, we’re just now learning that Assassin’s Creed Mirage was initially supposed to be DLC. With Ubisoft Bordeaux working on the title, their initial pitch was to see a DLC release for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that would take players back to the Middle East. However, that pitch only lasted a few weeks before things shifted in a far bigger way.
