Apple A17 Pro GPU Features Ray Tracing, MetalFX Upscaling: Resident Evil IV Remake, Village & Assassin’s Creed Mirage Coming To iPhones

Apple's iPhone 15 Pro models launched with Apple's new A17 Pro chip that packs enormous computational and graphical performance. It was recently reported that the new chip is causing the device to overheat, even so much in some cases that it is unbearable to hold. However, a prominent analyst is now stating that the overheating issues on the iPhone 15 Pro models are not due to the A17 Pro chip but the internal design and the new titanium finish.

Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion on PC have introduced NVIDIA's DLSS 3.5, which consists of Ray Reconstruction, a new feature available to all GeForce RTX GPU owners to increase the fidelity of ray tracing when upscaling from a lower rendering resolution.

The A17 Pro is Apple's fastest chip for the iPhone yet that comes with numerous performance and graphical performance gains. With the iPhone 14, Apple separated the A-series chip lineup between the two models. The standard models came with A15 Bionic while the iPhone 14 Pro came with A16 Bionic. This year, Apple continued the upgrade trend with standard models receiving the A16 Bionic while the 'Pro' models came with the A17 Pro chip. We are now hearing that Apple will introduce a dedicated A17 chip for the standard iPhone 16 models next year.

Capcom has revealed that Resident Evil Village, along side its Winters’ Expansion, will be making its way on to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and supported iPads on October 30. The game will be priced at $39.99, while the expansion will be sold separately with a price tag of $19.99.

Apple’s recent keynote marketed the gaming capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with the company saying that both flagships will be able to play current-generation AAA games with ray tracing enabled. There was even evidence showing how the latest models could play Resident Evil Village when connected to an external monitor, but when running Genshin Impact at the highest settings, it is an uphill task, as one video shows.

The latest AnTuTu results comparing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and A17 Pro scores have been spotted online, and just like on previous occasions, Qualcomm’s current flagship SoC gets the better of Apple’s A-series champion. Likely noticing that these differences have existed for a while now, AnTuTu has pushed out a statement explaining why Snapdragon and other chipsets tailor-made for Android smartphones and tablets always seem to have an edge against Apple’s custom silicon family.

The A17 Pro was taken through its paces in a recent benchmark, and only obtained a mere single-digit gain against the A16 Bionic in Geekbench 6’s multi-core run. The reason for this low score is quite simple; according to the latest findings, the iPhone 15 Pro Max featuring this chipset is unable to keep low temperatures for longer periods, resulting in thermal throttling, and requires a beefy cooling solution to get a high single-threaded and multi-threaded result.
