Assassin’s Creed Mirage Receives New Action-Packed Trailer Focused on Baghdad

Virtual photography might be a fairly young trend in gaming, but it’s one that’s got a large number of fans, to the extent that games not having a photo mode can often be quite a disappointment for audiences. One franchise that has consistently delivered solid photo modes in recent years is, of course, Assassin’s Creed, and that won’t change with its upcoming instalment.

During my cover story trip to Ubisoft Bordeaux in France, my hands-on time consisted of Baghdad exploration and contracts. The former was good fun – Baghdad feels almost like a 2023 spiritual reimagining of Jerusalem in 2007’s Assassin’s Creed, with plenty of rooftops and parkour paths to hit from objective to objective. But the latter was the highlight of my experience. 

2023 has once again been a great year for gamers as not only AAA studios but indie developers too have brought out some amazing games. While The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom is widely regarded as the best game of 2023 so far, other games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Diablo IV, Dead Space Remake, Baldur's Gate 3 and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty have made it a year to remember. However, 2023 isn't over and there are still some highly anticipated games releasing in the coming months.

When Ubisoft revealed Assassin’s Creed Mirage last September, it also announced that Basim Ibn Is’haq, the master assassin who brought Eivor into the Hidden Ones order in 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, was returning. This time, however, he would the playable protagonist. His journey in Mirage takes him from street thief to Hidden Ones order initiate and eventually to the master assassin we see in Valhalla. 

The folks over at Ubisoft are gearing up to release Assassin’s Creed Mirage. We know the game is coming out in the following month. However, we’re just now learning that Assassin’s Creed Mirage was initially supposed to be DLC. With Ubisoft Bordeaux working on the title, their initial pitch was to see a DLC release for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that would take players back to the Middle East. However, that pitch only lasted a few weeks before things shifted in a far bigger way.

Ubisoft revealed Assassin’s Creed Mirage last September as part of a special stream celebrating the series’ 15th anniversary. Now, one year later, and a little over one month before the game hits PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, it’s getting the Game Informer spotlight on our latest cover! We traveled to France to speak with Ubisoft Bordeaux, a relatively new studio in the worldwide company’s massive stable of studios. After opening its doors in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux has worked mainly as a support studio to others in the Ubisoft umbrella. But after leading development on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Wrath of the Druids DLC, the team was given a chance to create a full game. 

In an all-new trailer revealed today at Gamescom, Ubisoft gave us our first look—or, more accurately, our first listen—at the «full Arabic voiceover» that will be available in all editions of the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage.
