There's a big, new, shiny PS5 exclusive on the scene, and we expect it'll be a popular pick this weekend. Yes, Stellar Blade is here, and it's well worth checking out if you're in the mood for some good old-fashioned monster-murking action. There's lots of other stuff to play, though, as our team shows with an eclectic mix of PS5 and PS4 titles.

Microsoft's decision to close several development studios, such as Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, and more, has generally been met with a big thumbs-down online. Tango was responsible for break-out hit Hi-Fi Rush in 2023, a game considered one of the best on Xbox in recent years, and went on to win a BAFTA for Animation.

Microsoft has shuttered several Bethesda-owned game studios, including Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks and Redfall maker Arkane Austin, in order to shift focus on to its “priority games”. The Xbox parent is also closing Alpha Dog Games, makers of the mobile game Mighty Doom, while Roundhouse Studios, which also contributed to Redfall development, will be absorbed by ZeniMax Online Studios. The development, initially reported by IGN, was confirmed by affected studios Tango Gameworks and Arkane in separate posts on X late Tuesday. The shutdowns come months after Microsoft announced layoffs at Xbox and Activision Blizzard earlier this year, which made 1,900 roles redundant.

Motiga’s Gigantic, a MOBA shooter whose servers shut down in 2018, is getting resurrected, courtesy of abstraction and Gearbox Publishing. Microsoft’s highly anticipated update on the state of the Xbox business — and whether Xbox exclusives are going multiplatform — will be revealed on Thursday, Feb. 15. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, Xbox president Sarah Bond, and head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty promise to share updates on the Xbox business in the form of a podcast, according to a post on X from the official Xbox account.

Reports are suggesting that the next-generation console may be made by the same team that developed the Microsoft Surface tablet. Jason Ronald, the person responsible for leading the development of the Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox One, is also reportedly not in charge of the team creating the upcoming console.

Xbox and Bethesda will live stream a new Developer Direct presentation on Thursday, January 18, it’s been announced.

GameMill announced NASCAR Arcade Rush in June, and had a few screenshots to show off then – but no video. The images made it clear that the NASCAR license would be used fairly well to do things like recreate cars and reimagine well-known tracks, but there wasn’t much to go off of beyond the name and concept.
