Wii U fans have brought the console's online multiplayer functionality back online, after Nintendo officially ended its own server support.

Splatoon 3 has released its 7.2.0. update for April 2024. The adjustments to the game come just prior to the upcoming Springfest Splatfest. As a number of the updates have to do with weapons and Special Weapons, fans may want to practice a bit before the Splatoon 3 Springfest to ensure they've adapted to the changes made.

The producer of Square Enix’s Foamstars has explained the team is tired of the comparisons between its new online party shooter and Nintendo’s Splatoon. It’s not difficult to spot the similarities between the two games, as both involve the core mechanic of colorful sprays that affect the opposing team, and the comparisons have sparked a conversation online. Nonetheless, the Square Enix team behind Foamstars wants players to see it has more to offer than these comparisons.

Square Enix’s Foamstars has received a release date, launching on February 6th for PS4 and PS5. However, since its announcement, the 4v4 party shooter has been compared to Nintendo’s Splatoon, with players spraying foam in arenas and using it to traverse instead of ink.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to claim a brand new game at no extra cost in February. Square Enix's Foamstars, which bears some similarities to Nintendo's Splatoon series, will be available as part of the PS Plus Essential monthly lineup starting on February 6. If you claim it by March 4, you'll be able to play the PS4 and PS5 exclusive as long as your subscription is active. After March 4, the game will cost $30, though you'll still need a PS Plus subscription to play it since it's an online multiplayer title.

However, to counter this, the team at Squid Research Labs has revealed that when the new year comes, you won’t have to wait too long before diving into another Splatoon 3 Splatfest. But the question is, what will the theme be for the first new Splatfest of 2024?

The three available choices include zombies who are well known for being a little bit bitey at times, skeletons that rattle their bones while loving to jump around and finally ghosts who might not always seem like they’re there but are always glad to catch you by surprise. For those who enjoy voting based on character the choices belong to Shiver, Frye and Big Man respectively. The best part of all is the team has absolutely gone all out to make this a fully decorated experience no matter what team you’re on!

It’s been over a week since the newest Nintendo Direct dropped some unique bunches of information about the rest of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. One of the things that got players excited, at least at first, was the Direct kicking off by showing more of Splatoon 3 Side Order. The DLC is the second part of the title’s “expansion pass” and will feature the returning Agent 8 being sucked into a mysterious place ruled by order. To that end, they’ll meet up with old and new characters to rescue a certain someone and face all-new enemies as they try to make it through.

The Nintendo Switch's run might be coming to an end, although there's still no official confirmation on if that's the case or when it might happen, but that doesn't mean new games and accessories aren't still coming our way for the console. Right off the bat in the latest Nintendo Direct, finally, Splatoon 3 fans got the rain in the desert that we’ve been waiting for. Side Order news is finally here, almost a year out since the initial announcement. With it is a slew of information, plenty of which makes the nature of the DLC obvious. But there are a few details, some that lingered in the background, that do a whole lot more telling than what’s evident on the surface. Splatoon 3 entered the Switch's library with a splash last year, but Nintendo isn't done supporting the squid-based shooter just yet. Today, we got a new look at wave 2 of the game's expansion pack, titled Side Order. You can watch the trailer below.

The Nintendo Direct for today got off to a hot start as they revealed a new look at the Splatoon 3 Side Order content! If you recall, this is the second part of the game’s Expansion Pass. The first part was bringing players back to the OG location of Inkopolis, which was nice, but this content is much deeper. And by all accounts of the trailer, this is going to be an all-new way to play the game! From the enemies you’ll be fighting, to the game’s plot revolving around Pearl and Marina, and more!

Whenever a new Nintendo Switch game is released, a few new amiibo figures modeled after characters from it usually aren't far behind. The first anniversary of Splatoon 3 came and went over the weekend, and some of the characters introduced via the latest installment in the series will be getting their very first amiibos very soon. But Nintendo has decided to reveal even more stuff for gamers to enjoy today, including the arrival of a new Big Run event.

Nintendo is reminding us that Autumn is just around the corner in the Northern Hemisphere with Splatoon 3’s 5.0.0 update, which they have named Drizzle Season 2023. It’s an exciting load of content that will help round out the game’s content.

Splatoon got what will almost definitely be its final game on the Nintendo Switch last year via Splatoon 3. The latest installment in the series got a couple of amiibo figures to mark the occasion, but Nintendo announced recently that there are more to come. The only trouble is even though it showed us all three of the new Splatoon amiibos it has in the offing, Nintendo didn't give us a way to buy them. Like popping them in the window of a store that doesn't have an opening time.

The Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC is probably the biggest unknown in the Splatoon world right now. Since its announcement almost a year ago now, we’ve had no official updates on what’s going on with the DLC or hints at any kind of story direction. However, we do have a few threads to pull that may just give us some answers as to what to expect. In this article, we’ll piece together what we know about the Side Order DLC:

Splashback real quick to 2015 when Splatoon launched on the Wii U which quickly became a brand new hit for Nintendo. A sequel released years later on the Switch delivering exciting new content. Now, we are already on the third installation of the series. Splatoon 3 debuted in September of last year and because an anniversary is approaching soon, Nintendo revealed what’s in store for the celebration.

At this point, if you’re not enjoying Splatoon 3, you’re missing out on quite a bit. The game has been incredibly popular since it dropped last year, and it’s about to celebrate its 1st anniversary in the biggest ways possible! Today, the team at Squid Research Labs dropped several announcements outlining what’s to come in the “Drizzle Season” that’ll start on September 1st. The game came out on September 9th last year, so it’s a nice way to honor their release month. As you would expect based on the last two “seasons” of the game, there’s plenty to check out and enjoy.

For the most part, I don’t have a dog in the hut when it comes to Splatoon 3 Splatfests. I mean sure, sometimes it might be important for Ganondorf to beat out Link and Zelda (he has real edgy Venom/Shadow energy that should be celebrated) when I have nothing better to do that week. But the results for this particular Splatfest are too spicy not to share.

The good news for you is that Splatoon 3 is hosting the next Splatfest later today.

Nintendo will resume network services for the Wii U versions of Splatoon and Mario Kart 8  on August 3 after an extended service period that lasted five months.

Splatoon and Mario Kart 8's Wii U servers abruptly went offline back in March of this year due to a security breach. Since Nintendo has been winding down support for its last-gen console, it may have been assumed the servers for those games might remain offline forever, but thankfully, that will not be the case. However, if they encounter this issue again, Nintendo has warned the servers might be shut down for good.

After five months, Nintendo is bringing back servers for Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, but the company is already warning that a permanent shutdown could come without much notice.

It took several months, but you can finally play the Wii U versions of Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon online. Nintendo has confirmed that both titles will once again be available for multiplayer as of August 3rd. The company has fixed the security vulnerability that prompted the shutdown of online service in March.

The Splatfest schedule for Splatoon 3 has been a bit unique compared to past titles in the franchise. The past two games have had a steady schedule of one Splatfest per month, and fans counted on that. But for the newest game, Nintendo has been a bit more inconsistent with things. There have been “breaks” in the schedule that have been hard to predict, and when those breaks happened, other “events” in the game’s world often took place. We bring this up because many thought a new Splatfest wouldn’t happen until September, and yet, we’re getting one in a few weeks.

Nintendo live service games often launch without a bevy of features, especially when it comes to the competitive scene. But it looks like they’re going to rectify that mistake post-launch for Splatoon 3, if this new announcement pans out.
