Splatoon 3 has released its 7.2.0. update for April 2024. The adjustments to the game come just prior to the upcoming Springfest Splatfest. As a number of the updates have to do with weapons and Special Weapons, fans may want to practice a bit before the Splatoon 3 Springfest to ensure they've adapted to the changes made.
Splatoon 3 has seen a lot of new content recently, with the most expansive being the Side Order DLC Wave 2 release. The new story mode campaign also adds the ability to revisit Inkopolis Square and watch Off the Hook perform live during Splatfests. Although Splatoon 3 is beginning the approach to the end of its two years of promised support, it doesn't look like the content being added to the game or the balancing process is slowing down.
Splatoon 3's 7.2.0 update is now live, and players will need to install it to play online effective immediately. The update has altered the layout of the Undertow Spillway map, but the majority of the update has to do with balancing weapons and Special Weapons.
Both versions of the Splattershot Pro and the Nozzlenose have seen their damage increased, and moving speed while firing has been improved for Dapple Dualies. The radius of ink splatter and damage explosions for the Luna Blaster and the S-BLAST have been increased respectively. The shot spread of the Splattershot Nova has been reduced while on land, the Sploosh-o-Matic has expanded collision detection to make it easier to hit enemies, and the Painbrush has been updated to improve its inking width while moving and to reduce the time it takes for ink to start regenerating.
The Special Weapons Big Bubbler, Splattercolor Screen, Triple Splashdown, and Kraken Royale have also all seen tweaks. Damage to the inner device and top section of the Big Bubbler has been reduced, while damage done by the Splattercolor Screen has been increased. The time it takes between rising and landing with Triple Splashdown has been reduced, but the radius of the damage done has also been reduced. Lastly, players super jumping to someone using the Kraken Royale will no longer jump to them directly, but will instead place them where the player was when they activated Kraken Royale.
While some of these changes may be more well-received than others, Splatoon 3 is constantly re-evaluating the battlefield to try and diminish any unfair advantages weapons and Special Weapons have. The development team is already gearing up for the next update, which will also include weapon balance adjustments alongside new Sizzle Season content.
