The PC requirements for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth are now available via Steam, and they’re a step up from its predecessor, Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Perhaps the biggest change is that the sequel requires 82 GB of installation space, whereas the latter needs a maximum of 60 GB. With Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio proclaiming it as the longest game in the series, it does make sense.

Board games and video games go hand-in-hand for a lot of very obvious reasons. If you like playing one, then there's a very strong chance you'll like playing the other. That's why there tends to be a lot of crossover between the two worlds. Video games based on board games, and famous video game characters making the leap to your tabletop. Sonic will be doing a little of the latter in 2024 via Sonic Roll, a board game based on the original series of games created by Kess Entertainment.

There is always going to be a question about “how long video games should be, and everyone will have a different answer to things. Some will say that if they’re “too long,” people won’t finish them, and that can be true depending on the game and the player. But don’t tell Atlus that, okay? In contrast, if a game is “too short,” many people may think they’ve wasted their money, which is not what anyone wants. So, with SEGA and the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, you might be surprised that this spinoff title will be the longest game in the franchise so far.

People can’t seem to agree on whether or not they want their games to have a gargantuan amount of content, but the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series has usually been one to consistently deliver meaty, lengthy experiences. And though the recently-released spinoff title Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name was obviously a shorter game than most of its siblings, the series’ next mainline instalment, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, isn’t going to follow suit.

At first blush, I considered Persona 5 Tactica an unnecessary encore for the Phantom Thieves. They already got a sequel inPersona 5 Strikers,and a definitive edition that doubled as a gut-punch farewell in Persona 5 Royal. Moreover, Atlus has begun to place its attention on remakes and remasters of the series’ older games, while slowly passing the torch to the likes of Metaphor: ReFantazio and the eventual sixth Persona installment. The deeper I dug into Tactica, though, the more convinced I became that the Thieves’ message can still resonate — even if it’s still mired in the same poisonous tropes.

Lego has officially revealed its Shadow the Hedgehog set, due to arrive on 1st January 2024 in the UK.

Hints Sonic's Lego world will be expanding in major ways very soon have been appearing online pretty frequently for the last few weeks. First an image of characters potentially getting Minifigures appeared online, and then a matching set for one of those characters followed suit. That character was Shadow, and now confirmation the set is real and coming very soon has been confirmed by Lego via a brand new store page.

Cord Smith has worked at Compulsion Games, Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Sega. He's now founded a new studio called Inevitable Studios and the team's first game is a narrative-based action platformer called Always in Mind. In it, players must escape their own mind using special powers gained from living out their family's stories of the past.

The Yakuza series (or Like a Dragon, as it’s known now) has always been known for how frequently it puts out games, and one of its upcoming releases, it turned out, was in development for a surprisingly short duration.

Simulation games can be some of the most rewarding games to excel at, but they’ve never quite found a natural home on consoles like they have on PCs over the years. That isn’t to say that attempts haven’t been made over the decades, but results have been mixed with ports that weren’t fully-optimized for console gaming hardware and in some cases, that’s led to games being worse to play on modern hardware than even older hardware. Games like Planet Coaster ring that bell because with a newer and theoretical console-optimized experience, it still never felt natural on a controller. Meanwhile, the original Theme Park on the Sega Genesis felt pretty natural with its controls reworked and a very similar premise.

Sega is teaming up with Apple Arcade for a new game in the Sonic franchise. Titled Sonic Dream Team, the game will be released exclusively on Apple Arcade, and will be out on December 5. Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki has discussed the future of the series and revealed he’d consider working on a prequel game set in the original’s Yokosuka.

In 1983, video game legend Yu Suzuki started his career at Sega. Now, 40 years later, his newest game, Air Twister comes to consoles and PC on November 10. The arcade-like shooter was originally released as an Apple Arcade exclusive back in June 2022.

And then there's the inter-quel Like a Dragon Gaiden, due this November, which seems like a relatively straight-laced delve into the past of original protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. Phew, it's just as well Ed Thorn wrote that guide to the order you should play the Yakuza games in.

It would be easy to believe that the outlook for the games sector is all doom and gloom based on recent headlines about record numbers of layoffs in the sector, with estimates that up to 6,400 people have lost their jobs globally in 2023 after some of the biggest names in the industry, Microsoft, Epic, Sega, Unity, and Roblox, reduced staff numbers.

The Like A Dragon / Yakuza / Ryu Ga Gotoku series became a hit in Japan and the broader Western market thanks to its many quirky mini-games. While they initially seemed to be a distraction from the narrative campaign around Kazuma Kiryu, as the games went on they became more of a major focus of the franchise, as the fans became drawn to Sega’s quirky open world design around them.

Sega’s Like A Dragon series — formerly known as Yakuza — is well known for its variety. In between street brawls and gangster melodrama, you can sing karaoke, play table tennis, gamble, visit hostess clubs, golf, manage real estate, race go-karts, and much, much more. For Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the eighth mainline game in the Yakuza series, you can also live a cozy island lifestyle. It’s basically Animal Crossing on a deserted, trash-strewn Hawaiian island.

The Yakuza series, now renamed Like a Dragon, is known for minigames that are fun enough to yank attention away from the gangster melodrama for hours and hours. Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold more than 40 million copies since 2020 and was fun enough to yank attention away from everything else during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. You can probably see where this is going.

The Yakuza/Like a Dragon series are known for their variety of wacky side content and minigames, but it seems like the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is really going over the top in this respect. Sega has already revealed the game will have side activities inspired by Crazy Taxi and Pokemon, but that’s just the beginning. In a new trailer shown during the Xbox Partner Preview showcase, Sega revealed Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will have its own full-on Animal-Crossing-style mode.

Thus far, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has showcased delivery mini-games, crazy combat, surfing and even dolphin riding. However, in a new trailer at the Xbox Partner Preview showcase, the developer revealed Dondoko Island. It’s Animal Crossing but with Like a Dragon trappings.

Imagine my surprise when I reached a later stage in the newest Sonic adventure and got hit by a wave of familiarity. What I first thought was sleep deprivation was actually a cool throwback to a classic Sega arcade shooter nestled deep into Sonic Superstars.

For many, Sonic Superstars has felt like a “return to form” that fans have been asking SEGA for and are finally getting. Fans have said for years that Sonic and friends need to return to the 2D gameplay style that made the franchise famous in the first place. SEGA hesitated for many years but eventually made this game to see how fans felt about it. Overall, the praise has been positive, and the members of Sonic Team worked hard to try and deliver a balance between the Sonic titles of old while also making the game feel fresh and new.
