Blizzard Entertainment struck gold with World of Warcraft and it has been dominating the MMO space for almost two decades. Overwatch was originally envisioned as Project Titan, a new MMORPG that would not be a part of the Diablo, Starcraft, or Warcraft franchises.

In what looks like a first, Blizzard will offer some of its games on Valve's Steam store.

Things are arguably better for Blizzard than they have been for a while given the successful launch of Diablo IV, but what about another game that recently launched, Overwatch 2? Things aren’t so rosy there. Blizzard recently canned the game’s paid PvE component, and according to the latest Activision Blizzard earnings report, despite going free-to-play and delivering a fairly steady cadence of new content, Overwatch 2 is already starting to bleed players.

Despite fairly positive reception at launch less than a year ago, Overwatch 2 competitor Gundam Evolution is already shutting down.

There’s been plenty going on recently with Activision Blizzard, with the biggest thing being how the company has gotten the green light to be bought by Microsoft, potentially changing the gaming landscape as a result. But the other big piece of news hitting the internet is talk about the future of the Overwatch League. If you recall, this massive eSports league was supposed to be a “game-changer” on how eSports were done and push Activision Blizzard to new heights and popularity. But it didn’t work out that way, and now many wonder if the league will continue as we know it.

Overwatch 2 voice actor Lucie Pohl wants to see a scene where Mercy, the character she voices, shaves her legs in the popular Blizzard FPS game. Speaking to PCGamesN about the impact the Swiss healer has had on the wider gaming community, the Overwatch 2 VA believes that her character can stand for so much more than just being a pretty, strong woman.

In a recent earnings report, Blizzard celebrated Diablo 4's meteoric rise as its highest-earning game of all time, even while community sentiment around the latest patch hasn't been stellar. 

Activision Blizzard has made a round of layoffs at its esports division, while confirming that big changes may be in store for the Overwatch League.

Blizzard games will be coming to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2 on 10th August, giving PC gamers an option outside of Battle.net for where they buy and play their Blizzard games.

Blizzard is bringing a selection of its PC games over to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2. The free-to-play team-based shooter is headed to Valve's gaming client on August 10, in what appears to be a change in Blizzard's strategy due to its impending acquisition by Microsoft and the low player engagement the game has garnered in recent times. The Windows PC version of Overwatch 2 and other games from the publisher is largely restricted to its Battle.net launcher — a hot topic for most PC gamers, who prefer having all their games on one platform and hate having to juggle between them. The Steam version will also include the niceties of unlockable achievements and cross-platform multiplayer.

Overwatch 2 will be available for all players on Steam, becoming the first of hopefully many Blizzard titles to join the online gaming platform. 

In its recent earnings report, Activision Blizzard has admitted that player investment and engagement with Overwatch 2 has been in decline. The publisher revealed that the competitive shooter has “declined sequentially” this quarter.

For a while now, Blizzard fans on PC have had to begrudgingly put up with Battle.net, the developer's very own launcher that it uses to boot up pretty much every game released by Activision Blizzard. It's a pain in the neck for any PC player to have to constantly download launchers for different games, but Battle.net is a particularly annoying example of a developer forcing its fans to put up with a subpar launcher when Steam is already installed on 90 percent of computers at this point.

Blizzard is taking its first tentative steps away from Battle.net exclusivity, starting with the launch of Overwatch 2 on Steam this August and the promise of more games on the way.

Blizzard Entertainment today announced that they’re finally planning on releasing some of their games on Steam starting with Overwatch 2.

In May, Activision Blizzard warned that the Overwatch League is not in a good place. The city-based esports league is facing «headwinds,» as the publisher put it, that are taking a toll on both its current operations and its long-term future. It also acknowledged that efforts to address those challenges «may prove unsuccessful,» although Overwatch League head Sean Miller said the company remains «committed to Overwatch esports,» and that the league is «not going away anytime soon.»

Activision Blizzard has laid off around 50 employees, according to a new report from The Verge. 

Overwatch 2 is making a big jump over to Steam on August 10, Blizzard has announced. Furthermore, it will be followed by a selection of Blizzard games migrating to the storefront for the first time.

After years of dogged commitment to its own PC launcher, Battle.net, Blizzard is finally caving and releasing a handful of its games on Valve's popular storefront, Steam. And it's starting with Overwatch 2.

A “selection” of Blizzard Entertainment games are coming to Steam, starting with the free-to-play team-based hero shooter Overwatch 2 on August 10, the developer announced.

Overwatch 2 will be available to purchase on Steam starting on August 10.

Blizzard is bridging the gap and bringing some of its PC games over to Steam. The publisher announced that select games will appear on Valve’s launcher, starting with Overwatch 2 hitting Steam on August 10.

Blizzard is going to offer its digital PC games outside of its Battle.net launcher for the first time, starting next month with Overwatch 2 - though you’ll still need to sign in through Battle.net to play.

Notch up another victory for Valve, as after years of resisting, Blizzard has announced their games are coming to the ubiquitous Steam PC gaming platform. Blizzard was one of the pioneers of online multiplayer with their Battle.net service, and they’ve stubbornly refused to release their PC games on anything else. Well, that ends next month as Overwatch 2 will land on Steam (the game’s Steam page is already up).

Overwatch 2 will release on Steam on August 10, and Blizzard isn't going to stop there, promising that «a selection» of its other games will come to Steam in the future.

I must admit, I double took when I read this: Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam, and other Blizzard games are set to follow. With the iconic FPS game‘s Steam released date locked in, the company has confirmed that other games will follow in Overwatch 2‘s footsteps, meaning we may finally see the likes of Diablo and World of Warcraft on Valve’s gaming hub.

Amid the final days of the Activision Blizzard / Microsoft deal, Activision Blizzard is laying off workers in its esports department while also preparing for potentially huge changes coming to the Overwatch League.

Activision Blizzard revealed in its second-quarter earnings report that it has started laying off esports employees ahead of changes to the Overwatch League. This has left teams with the chance to vote to continue with the "updated operating agreement", and if they choose not to, they will receive a termination fee of $6 million. Essentially, teams will vote on whether Overwatch League lives or dies.

Diablo 4 fans frustrated with the game's first big patch are going beyond the game's scope, airing frustrations over how developer Blizzard has handled updating other live service games like World of Warcraft or Overwatch.
