Blizzard is bringing some PC games to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2

One of the biggest launches at this year’s Gen Con is not the sort of game you’d normally expect to be as celebrated as it is: Cosmoctopus. Designed by Henry Audubon, the creator of the hit board game Parks, it’ll be released widely on Aug. 18. Polygon had a chance to play the game in advance of this year’s Gen Con in Indianapolis, and we found it to be a surprisingly cuddly take on cosmic horror.

While Microsoft sent its final submission to the Consumer Markets Authority in the UK regarding its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, another regular has approved the deal. New Zealand’s Commerce Commission announced its approval, noting its focus on “the importance of Activision games (such as Call of Duty, Overwatch and World of Warcraft) to New Zealand gamers.”

Indie game highlighter Wholesome Games is hosting its very own event over on Steam with solid discounts on some of my favorite games from the last few years.

The Wholesome Games Celebration has kicked off on Steam, offering steep discounts on many, many cosy games that you’d typically see featured in various Wholesome Directs - downtempo puzzlers, non-violent explore ‘em ups, games starring cute woodland critters, and so on. Scrolling through all the good stuff might take a while since nearly 250 games are discounted, so let’s run through some highlights here.

There is a big market lately with portable gaming PC handhelds. With Valve releasing the Steam Deck into the marketplace, fans quickly gravitated towards the handheld. It offered players a means to enjoy some of their favorite PC games, both Steam and alternative launchers, on the go. Since then, we have seen some alternatives come into the marketplace in hopes of carving out a slice of this market. For instance, one of the big competitors to come out that offered a similar device was the ASUS ROG Ally. But now it looks like Lenovo will soon throw its own take into the marketplace.

Tower of Fantasy will begin a new round of server merges starting tomorrow and carrying into Wednesday. The merges will be within regions, to help server populations. This will also mark the end of server transfers. 

Ayaneo knows a thing or two about premium handheld gaming PCs, but specs for the Ayaneo KUN suggest it’ll be a monstrous Steam Deck rival. Not only will it boast a large 8.4-inch QHD screen and high spec AMD Ryzen Phoenix APU, but its battery is set to be four times the size. That’s probably a good thing too, as it sounds like the portable’s punchy specs will need every drop of juice they can get.
