Nascar Rivals developer Motorsport Games has cut around 38 jobs in a recent round of layoffs, mostly affecting roles in the UK and Australia.

Forza Motorsport has been out for over a couple of weeks now, which means developer Turn 10 Studios is now fully focused on post-launch support for the racing sim. The game’s first major update launched earlier this month, which was followed by a hotfix, and now Turn 10 has offered more details on its next major update.

QA workers at support developer Experis Game Solutions have recently filed to unionize. Per Urban Milwaukee, the group filed for a union election with the NLRB this past Friday (October 20), and are organizing with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 10 (IAMAW).

Forza Motorsport launched in a less-than-stellar state, with performance problems, bugs, and graphical glitches galore. Turn 10 is aware and working on some of those issues, but Forza’s community is also hard at work improving how the game looks.

Turn 10 Studios did something different with by making you level up your cars. In prior games, you could just spend credits to upgrade cars, which was a straightforward and meaningless method for growing your garage. However, you have to level your car by using it to unlock upgrades. Furthermore, upgrades have their own currency, separate from the credits you use to purchase new vehicles.

The new game brings the long-running sim racing franchise to the Xbox Series X/S for the first time, but a lack of split-screen multiplayer support marks a break with series tradition. Although the companion series has never featured split-screen renditions of its open-world environments, consoles have always been able to handle local multiplayer in 's more focused racetracks. The technological leap with the Xbox Series X/S might seem even more capable of taking on such a challenge, making the lack of the staple feature more surprising and disappointing.

Forza Motorsport’s developer, Turn 10 Studios, finds itself in an odd position. This is the eighth game in a series that used to be a flagship for Xbox. And yet, after an uncharacteristic six years away, it returns to find that its fun-loving younger sibling series, Forza Horizon, has stolen the limelight. This process was already underway when Forza Motorsport 7 came out in 2017 — it’s probably the reason Microsoft felt an extended break for Motorsport was both comfortable and necessary — but in the intervening time, the two strongest Horizon titles yet found an enormous new audience on Game Pass and beyond. It’s been six years since the last Forza Motorsport game. The circuit-racing series has been on extended hiatus while the shop was more than ably minded by its knockabout cousin Forza Horizon, an open-world spinoff so exuberant and fun that it became the main event. In the meantime, Motorsport developer Turn 10 Studios has been rebuilding its technology for a new hardware generation and reconsidering the structure of its racing action, which spent much of the Xbox One era bogged down in a mess of loot boxes and overdeveloped live-service progression systems.

It’s been six years since Forza Motorsport 7 was released, and a fraction under two years since it was delisted. That’s right; it’s been over 725 days since you could buy a Forza Motorsport game this side of the second-hand market. Fortunately, that’s about to change next month – but ahead of the much-anticipated launch of Forza Motorsport on PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles on October 10, 2023 we’ve finally been able to get behind the wheel. Unsurprisingly, it does look and feel fabulous – but it’s the more thoughtful tweaks to the moment-to-moment racing out on track that have me the most interested.
