Comparing fast cars and juiced-up laptops? Yes, it's a tech-reviewer trope that PCMag and plenty of others have rolled with since unfolding the first notebook PCs. But what about when those two worlds actually do collide? That's much rarer.
MSI hopes to have found common ground between gear-heads and tech-heads, and their need for both style and speed. Racing over to New York City, MSI made a pit stop at PC Labs to give us a closer look at a fresh new collaboration with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, first teased at Computex 2023. With this branded and stylized Stealth 16 gaming laptop, priced at a blistering $2,899, MSI is set to deliver one of the most distinctive mobile gaming computers of 2023.
The latest addition to MSI’s lineup of Stealth laptops is different than you’d expect. Partnering with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, the newest Stealth is tricked out with some top-of-the-line gear, including an Intel Core i9-13900H CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and a gorgeous 4K, 16:10 OLED panel.
Don't expect a dull cardboard box for your bucks: This laptop’s packaging is worth noting.
Opening the massive box reveals two panels, and once you pull those out, you’re greeted with a souped-up laptop, served up on what might as well be a literal platter.
But the luxury experience doesn't stop there. Popping the top of the box reveals additional peripherals and accessories, including a mouse, a mouse pad, and a 128GB USB thumb drive—all tagged with the Mercedes logo.
This Stealth 16 comes framed in a magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis, painted in a Selenite Gray finish, that keeps the laptop light. Meanwhile, MSI's Cooler Boost 5 system, which uses dual fans and five heat pipes, keeps the internals cool. Extremely thin and light for a gaming machine, the Stealth 16 measures just 0.78 inch thick and weighs 4.14 pounds.
Of course, the devil is in the details, and it wouldn’t be much of a Mercedes collaboration without some luxury car branding. You’ll find Mercedes-AMG logos on the lid, the palm rest, the underside, and one of the screen bezels.
After all that, you’ll notice a checkered flag design on both the space bar and the webcam shutter, an AMG logo across the vents, and a "Start Engine" logo on the power button. The only thing missing is the roar of an actual engine.
Powered by SteelSeries, the Stealth 16’s per-key RGB gaming keyboard delivered silent, satisfying button presses, a delight when gaming on the go. Other additions include speedy Wi-Fi 6E wireless networking and a beefy 99.9-watt-hour battery.
The machine also has a copious array of ports down both edges, impressive for a thin machine like this one. You get a smattering of USB Type-A and Type-C (one of the latter supporting
