Continuing its extensive post-launch support for Lords of the Fallen, Hexworks has released perhaps its largest update yet, Master of Fate. A recent report from a reputable Xbox insider suggests that one of 2023's biggest Soulslikes, Lords of the Fallen, could be coming to Xbox Game Pass in the near future. If true, the addition of this relatively new AAA game to the popular subscription service would mark yet another major inclusion to Xbox Game Pass, which has received consistent, quality content in recent months.

With CI Games and Hexworks releasing the final update for Lords of the Fallen, the Souls-like action RPG is allegedly bound for Game Pass in the last week of May.

CI Games and Hexworks have released Lords of the Fallen update 1.5 – Master of Fate. This free update for the Soulslike action RPG is the last in a sequence of rapid updates after a troubled initial launch, but also a new Advance Game Modifier System that can twist the game into being more of a Roguelike, even.

The last few days have brought news of layoffs at Unity, Lost Boys Interactive, Thunderful Group, and others, and another name has now joined that list in the form of CI Games, the publisher of Lords of the Fallen and Sniper: Ghost Warrior.

Lords of the Fallen has been a success for publisher CI Games, selling one million copies with the expectation of generating $100 million in revenue over the next few years. Developer Hexworks is already working on a new project, codenamed Project 3, which is also a triple-A action RPG. However, a recent trademark blatantly hints at some connection to Lords of the Fallen.

CI Games’ Lords of the Fallen has been a breakout hit, selling over one million copies in its first ten days. The publisher has ambitious plans for it, including a goal of $100 million in net revenue over “the next few years”, per CEO Marek Tyminski.

Responding to questions by a player about the kind of DRM the PC release of Lords of the Fallen will use on launch, Developer Hexworks has revealed that the game will not be using Denuvo. The studio goes on to state that there are also no future plans to use Denuvo’s much-maligned DRM software.

Reviews went live recently for Hexworks’ Lords of the Fallen, praising the game’s art style, combat, and use of dual worlds for exploration. However, there have been complaints about performance and other technical issues on PS5 and PC.

Sometimes it’s best to simply start over and try again, taking all the experience and knowledge from a first attempt and feeding it into a better second effort. Lords of the Fallen is a multi-faceted example of exactly this. The original game’s developers went off to create a different Souls-like series, while publisher CI Games held onto this IP, restarting development multiple times before founding new developer Hexworks in 2020. Despite this being Hexworks’ first game, it feels like a well-rounded and considered effort at a thoroughly modern Souls-like.

Hexworks’ Lords of the Fallen releases in October, offering Dark Souls-like action for action RPG fans.
