For over half a decade, developers Motion Twin have kept us all entertained with Dead Cells, their insanely successful 2D roguelike action game. But after so long, it only makes sense that the creators would move on…and so now we see Motion Twin working on a 3D roguelike action game. Announced at The Game Awards and even described as “Dead Cells’ hyperactive, sugar-rushed 3D sibling” in its debut trailer, which you can see below, Windblown is set to make its debut next year.

Dead Cells developer Motion Twin revealed its new game during a surprise announcement at The Game Awards tonight, a high-speed roguelike battler called Windblown that sets players off on a quest to protect their home of floating islands from the invading forces of the Vortex.

Fortnite is constantly doing crossovers, so the announcement that Epic had teamed up with Lego for a new survival mode glanced off my consciousness like the announcement of a new line of Funko Pops. But we just tried the mode, which has already attracted over two million concurrent players after launching today, and it's way bigger and more fun than we anticipated—and, of course, free.

Gather round, cozy farm sim players, we've got a mashup I've not seen yet. Echoes of the Plum Grove is a colony farm sim that its publisher Freedom Games is calling part Paper Mario, Stardew Valley, The Sims, and even Oregon Trail. The first Activision Blizzard game has landed on NVIDIA's GeForce NOW cloud platform, and it's the publisher's biggest franchise: Call of Duty. The very same weekend we received Bluey: The Videogame, Australia’s ABC broadcasted a countdown of the top 100 Bluey episodes, as voted by the public. Tuning in for the final 20-or-so, it was the perfect opportunity to catch up with any of the very best ones I’d managed to miss over the years ahead of this review. One of those was Onesies, and I was floored when the theme was revealed. Seriously, the ability of this children’s show to tackle a concept as complex as infertility for an audience of any age, and with such an expert balance of levity and empathy, is nothing short of remarkable. There is so much to this show beneath the surface. I do wish I could say the same about Bluey: The Videogame – that it, too, is quite remarkable in its own way. Unfortunately, it is not. It may look like a spot-on recreation of Bluey’s gorgeous and distinct 2D animation, but beneath the surface there isn’t much more than an hour or so of mild multiplayer fun and moderate frustration.

As head designer Mark Rosewater mentioned in his Making Magic column, the dungeon cards from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms presented one angle on underground exploration in card form, but The Lost Caverns of Ixalan tackles another, one with more of a focus on «resource acquisition and the building/upgrading of items.» To say the quiet part out loud: it's loosely inspired by Minecraft.
