Ninja Theory gained quite a following when they delivered Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice back in 2017. The game was set up as an action-adventure game where players followed a female Pict warrior named Senua. Dealing with psychosis, Senua is forced to endure a harsh world filled with horrors to fight back and puzzles to solve. That initial game captivated audiences worldwide; fortunately, we’re not done with Senua quite yet. If you enjoyed that first game, you know a sequel has been in the works. Unveiled back in 2019, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II has been in development. Of course, the big change since the first installment is that Microsoft has picked up Ninja Theory.

Tameem Antoniades, a co-founder of Xbox's Ninja Theory studio and writer and director of the imminent Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, has left the developer. As the first ever Xbox Series X game to be revealed, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was announced alongside the unveiling of the Series X at the 2019 Game Awards and is the direct sequel of 2017's hit cinematic adventure game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is not coming to the PlayStation 5, a well-known Xbox insider has said. The claim was offered in response to a newly emerged rumor that Ninja Theory is already working on a Hellblade 2 PS5 port.

During the January 2024 Xbox Developer Direct, Ninja Theory announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will launch on May 21 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. It will also arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch.

On Xbox Wire, studio head Dom Matthews revealed that its length is “similar” to the first game with a “focused narrative.” It’s also a digital-only release that will cost $49.99.

It's been a while since we last got a proper good look at Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, but this year's Game Awards hasn't just given us a new trailer for Ninja Theory's long-awaited sequel, but a rough release window as well. Microsoft has a packed release schedule in place for 2024 where its first party releases are concerned, but among those games, the one that has generated the most excitement is Ninja Theory’s long anticipated Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.
