is an exciting upcoming game from developer Ninja Theory, and details about its release are finally coming together after years of anticipation. As a follow-up to 2017's, dives back into the story of Senua, a Celtic warrior struggling with visions and voices that have haunted her since her youth. The title was first announced in 2019 and showcased at a number of events over time, sticking to a fairly public development cycle that helped promote the first game ahead of its launch.

The very first Megami Tensei game, Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei, finally has a full translation, thanks to some intrepid fans. You might be saying, “but it already has one,” but this isn’t the one you’re thinking of. This is the game created in 1987 for Japanese home computers by Telenet.

Given how impressive Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was, it seemed inevitable that there would be a sequel. The game, despite being made independently by Ninja Theory, blew even the highest-budget games on the market out of the water in terms of graphical fidelity and storytelling. Microsoft realized this potential as well and purchased the studio to provide a bigger budget to the team for the eventual sequel and to secure it as a console exclusive for its then-unreleased Xbox Series X and S systems.

Ninja Theory and Xbox Game Studios teamed up to reveal the at today’s Xbox Developer Direct. Following plenty of leaks and rumors earlier this week, the game is confirmed to be arriving on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 21, 2024.

Ninja Theory gave a further glimpse of the things they show when talking about Hellblade: motion capture, graphical fidelity, mental health representation, and stabbing. They also provided a release date: May 21st, 2024.

Ninja Theory gained quite a following when they delivered Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice back in 2017. The game was set up as an action-adventure game where players followed a female Pict warrior named Senua. Dealing with psychosis, Senua is forced to endure a harsh world filled with horrors to fight back and puzzles to solve. That initial game captivated audiences worldwide; fortunately, we’re not done with Senua quite yet. If you enjoyed that first game, you know a sequel has been in the works. Unveiled back in 2019, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II has been in development. Of course, the big change since the first installment is that Microsoft has picked up Ninja Theory.
