The Game Awards is finally here. Each year, we have an award ceremony to tune into that is all about the video game industry.

It’s that time of year. The onslaught of new game releases has slowed to a trickle, so it’s time to look back at the best of what was and get a tease of what’s coming next. Also known as: The Game Awards.

The Game Awards is back for its 2023 edition, signalling that time of the year when the industry and fans gather together to celebrate the best in video games. Marking the 10th iteration of the Geoff Keighley-hosted show, the annual event is held in high regard by developers worldwide, who will be competing in 31 categories that acknowledge games across genres. As usual, the ceremony will be spruced up by big announcements and trailers for upcoming titles, backed by a dedicated musical orchestra conducted by returning composer Lorne Balfe. There haven't been as many leaks this year, so anticipation is high as gamers keep their fingers crossed hoping for the biggest reveals.

With The Game Awards now just a few hours away, one of its major announcements seem to have leaked. Embark Studios’ upcoming free-to-play multiplayer shooter THE FINALS might be getting a surprise release during the event.

The Game Awards 2023 will take place on Thursday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and you’ll be able to watch events unfold live right here.

A new rumor has come up in relation to The Game Awards.

The Game Awards is right around the corner, airing on December 7th at 4:30 PM PT. Several titles like Metaphor: ReFantazio, Guilty Gear Strive and more will appear, and you can add Red Barrels’ The Outlast Trials to the list. The developer tweeted about an “important broadcast” at the show, with a hotel room and TV featuring the Murkoff Corporation’s logo.

If The Outlast Trials isn’t enough horror, The Game Awards will also see Supermassive Games’ Dead by Daylight title appearing. A new tweet is available, featuring the message from studio director Steve Goss and executive producer Traci Tufte from May, which promised more details later this year. It seems we’ll finally learn more on December 7th.

Day of the Devs does know how to put on a good show, and its latest indie games spotlight — officially a special The Game Awards edition — was another winner, bringing release dates for the long-awaited likes of Open Roads and Flock, plus a bunch of other reveals. We got a psychedelic sequel to 2021's acclaimed jazz adventure Genesis Noir, the second entry in Digital Eclipse's stellar Golden Master Series — this time focusing on the legendary Jeff Minter — plus a load of weirdness, from landlord witches to callcentre horror, to enjoy. And if you missed the showcase live (which is still worth watching, seeing as some of the footage included hasn't yet been published as standalone trailers), you can see everything you missed below.

During The Game Awards last year, you may recall that Valve decided to give some viewers an early Christmas present by dishing out a number of Steam Decks for completely free. Not only that, but the company gave away a Steam Deck for every minute The Game Awards ran, even if the timing of the show went over the usual three and a half hours that Geoff Keighley reserves for the occasion. Valve is doing the same this year, but with one significant catch.

Another major title has been confirmed for The Game Awards 2023. The event’s producer and host Geoff Keighley recently took to Twitter to confirm that Metaphor: ReFantazio will “have something to show” during the showcase tomorrow.

The Players' Choice award at The Game Awards is, as the name suggests, fully voted for by fans. The category adopts a tournament-like structure, with games being eliminated on a round-to-round basis. And now, we're down to the final five — with the eventual winner being announced at Geoff Keighley's big show later this week.

In one of the more genuinely exciting teases ahead of the video game industry's night-of-nights, The Game Awards, SEGA is bringing a «new era, new energy» to the show, so much so the company sent out letters advertising the fact.

The next DLC character for Guilty Gear Strive will be announced during The Game Awards 2023 this week. The confirmation comes from developer Arc System Works itself, but there are no concrete hints to go off with regards to who the latest addition could be. Many fans are still waiting on returning fighters like Slayer, Dizzy, or Venom, but Strive has been rather unpredictable with its DLC up until this point.

Last month The Game Awards officially unveiled its nominations in all categories, with one exception. The “Players’ Voice” award is not only voted on by fans, the nominations are determined by them as well, which provides some interesting insight into what players are really excited by in a given year (or which fanbase is most motivated to stuff the ballot box).

Arkane Studios has had a rough start after being acquired by Microsoft. When the Xbox team managed to get ZeniMax Media, it came with a few studios, such as Arkane. They were known for delivering some thrilling single-player gameplay experiences. However, their first release into the marketplace while under the Xbox banner was a massive flop.  Redfall  didn’t hit the expectations of fans and critics alike. Despite that, it’s a title that still sees support from the studio. But what their next project will be remains a mystery. That mystery might be unveiled this week if an industry insider is to be believed.

Redfall may have left behind a major dent in Arkane Studios’ track record and reputation as a whole, but this is still the studio that brought us games like Dishonored, Prey, and Deathloop, so there’s naturally going to be plenty of excitement around what it will develop next. Interestingly enough, we’ll actually be getting some information on that pretty soon, as per a fresh leak.

Remember Nexon’s single-player action RPG based on Dungeon Fighter Online? Announced as Arad Chronicle: Khazan, it’s officially called The First Berserker: Khazan. It’s coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC with a new gameplay trailer debuting at The Game Awards.

With The Game Awards right around the corner, we’re getting details on what the show will highlight in terms of reveals and announcements at an increasing rate, and another major upcoming title has now been confirmed for the event.

Arad Chronicle: Khazan, the “single-player hardcore action RPG” based on the world of Dungeon Fighter Online, is officially titled The First Berserker: Khazan and will be available for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam, publisher Nexon and developer Neople announced. A gameplay trailer will be debut at The Game Awards 2023 on December 7.

Though the deals are good and I'm genuinely proud of the below lists, today's one of those days where I don't really want to be writing an intro. Frankly, I think my time would be better spent watching the "officially leaked" GTA VI trailer one more time. Y'know, for the the tenth viewing of. Possibly on the slowest playback speed, too, so I can spot yet another mind-blowing detail about this immensely impressive showcase.

One of this year's biggest titles, Hogwarts Legacy, will not feature at The Game Awards in any way, shape, or form this year, after having been voted out of contention for the show's Player's Voice award earlier today.

The Game Awards 2023 is nearly here and it promises a night filled with blockbuster reveals, musical performances, and recognition for the greatest games to be released this past year.
