FromSoftware is a massive name; I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that. But arguably, their most prominent release into the marketplace was Elden Ring. This is also one of their latest releases into the market, and it has an expansion in the works. So, fans eager to dive into new content will hopefully have something available sooner rather than later. But in a surprise report that we are getting from Reddit, it seems that FromSoftware might have obtained the full rights to Elden Ring from Bandai Namco due to the studio having funding investments from Sony and Tencent.

Developer FromSoftware now fully owns the trademark to its open world opus Elden Ring, after previously sharing ownership with publisher Bandai Namco. 

With the release of Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II, fans have been given a unique insight into the challenges and triumphs developer Naughty Dog encountered while creating its violent sequel, The Last of Us Part II. One of the biggest genuine surprises was a few almost throwaway lines, revealing that the cinematic adventure originally began life as a purely melee open-world game, one heavily inspired by FromSoftware's own grim epic, 2015's Bloodborne.

Tarnished stuck waiting in limbo for any scrap of Elden Ring DLC information will have to endure that fate a while longer yet, as FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa has crushed our Shadow of the Erdtree hopes in as dry, corporate fashion as possible. Despite meaningful evidence emerging last month to suggest that some surprise re-reveal was imminent (which may still be the case), it doesn't sound like we can expect a release date anytime soon.

While everyone awaits Elden Ring’s anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, it seems like a mobile adaptation of the FromSoftware fantasy classic has quietly entered development. Reuters, citing “three people familiar with the matter”, claims Chinese titan Tencent is working on a smartphone version of the game, as it “searches for a new hit to refresh its ageing stock of games”.

Elden Ring is a pretty tough game. Sure, most FromSoftware fans would probably tell you it's the easiest to beat, thanks to the Mimic Tear and the ability to overlevel to your heart's content, but it still has Malenia, Blade of Miquella and a whole host of bosses that will grab your health bar and beat you to death with it. That's what fans of Elden Ring and the Souls series like though, and it wouldn't be a true FromSoftware experience if you didn't encounter an absolute brick wall of a challenge.

From Software parent company, Kadokawa, has confirmed that whilst the team is «currently working hard» on Elden Ring's DLC, there is still no release date to share «at this time».

The studio behind Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2, Acquire, has been acquired by none other than Kadokawa Corporation. In effect, this means that Octopath Traveler and Dark Souls are now under the same umbrella, as Kadokawa also owns From Software, for one.

Japanese game developer and publisher Acquire, which is arguably best known for co-developing Square Enix’s 2D-HD role-playing games Octopath Traveler and its sequel, Octopath Traveler 2, has been acquired as a “wholly owned subsidiary” by Kadokawa Corporation. 

Bloodborne Kart is a fan game which aims to use From Software's gothic horror action RPG as the basis for a PSone-era kart racer. Or it was. Its developers say that Sony have been in touch and, as a consequence, "need to scrub the branding off." It'll stil come out after it a short delay, but it won't be called Bloodborne Kart anymore.

Bloodborne Kart, the long-awaited fan game that started as an April Fools' joke, is getting delayed to remove all reference to the FromSoftware action-RPG after Sony got in contact with the devs.

Over 10 years ago, files for unknown Dark Souls messages were found in a text dump by Reddit user Retrogameaudio, who's now known as Illusory Wall, a prominent FromSoftware sleuth. Two days ago, on December 12, this cold case was finally closed with the discovery of two messages which did originally exist in the vanilla version of the iconic RPG.
