For a limited time, Steam users have two free games that they can add to their digital libraries and keep forever. Steam giveaways may not be as predictable as the free games given away through the Epic Games Store, but users on Valve's platform still have multiple free games to claim each year. Those that have made sure to snag the free Steam games whenever they are available should have amassed a sizable collection by now.

Dead Island 2 is finally available on Steam as of today, April 22. Its arrival on Valve's storefront has been highly anticipated by the fandom, as underlined by the fact that Dead Island 2 is already listed as the best-selling game on the platform.

Dead Island: Riptide has been seeing a major uptick in player count on Steam as of late. The 11-year-old Dead Island spin-off has received a new surge in players, who have begun to breathe some new life into Dead Island: Riptide.

With how much Dead Island 2’s apocalypse parody poked fun at the Los Angeles area earlier this year, I guess it was only a matter of time before it turned its attention from vicious zombies to equally mindless cultists. I mean, how could they forget California’s reputation for welcoming eccentric people who then take advantage of our tolerance by brainwashing vast swathes of the population? Thankfully, this is something developer Dambuster Studios has corrected with its first DLC, Haus, which transports your character to a cult compound in Malibu where you’ll rub elbows with rich elites and smack down zombies who look like they’re dressed for the runway. And while I won't turn my nose up at a few more good laughs from a game I enjoyed, a three-hour runtime and very few new wrinkles to change up Dead Island 2’s basic zombie slashing formula make this jaunt extremely short-lived and a little unexciting.

Dead Island 2 was one of those games that most of us thought would be left in development hell. The game was first revealed during E3 2014, where we would go through a new zombie FPS, this time developed under Yager Development after Techland opted to work on Dying Light after they finished Dead Island. However, as you all know, the game swapped development studios and was consistently delayed. It wouldn’t be until earlier this year that the game finished development and was released into the marketplace. 

Today, Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios announced the release date of Dead Island 2 Haus. This first expansion for the game will debut on November 2 on all platforms, introducing an entirely new story where a billionaire's 'tecno-death cult' fights for survival during the zombie apocalypse.

Deep Silver and Plaion has revealed that the first expansion for Dead Island 2, titled Haus, will be released on November 2. According to the Expansion Pass for Dead Island 2, Haus is the first of two planned story expansions. In Haus, players will explore new locations and discover new weapons and skill cards while having a front-row seat to the slow decay of a cryptic group of survivors.

Dambuster Studios has confirmed that Dead Island 2’s first story expansion, Haus, will be released on November 2nd. It sees the Slayers investigating a “techno-death cult” helmed by a secret billionaire Konstantin. It’s considered the “paragon of a new future,” but there are plenty of undead threats to cull.

Sony has officially confirmed the selection of games being added to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium this month. Those subscribers at Extra-tier will be able to dive into a number of games well-suited to Halloween. 

Considering the delays that haunted the title for years, Dambuster Studios’ Dead Island 2 is a pretty good experience, selling over two million as of May 24th. Additional content via two expansion packs –Haus and SOLA Festival – is in development. However, there seems to be a new mode on the way.

Sweden's Embracer Group saw a 47 per cent increase in net sales for the first quarter of its financial year.

The wait for Dead Island 2 lasted nearly a decade, but the game did finally launch earlier this year, and turned out to be a critical and commercial success. In May, it was revealed that the action RPG had sold over 2 million units worldwide, and interestingly enough, Embracer Group – parent company of publisher Deep Silver – is expecting those sales to accelerate next year when the game launches for another platform.

Embracer said its restructuring program is on track and confirmed it's quietly moving forward with studio closures.

There was plenty of excitement and hype over the Dead Island 2 release. The video game was first announced several years ago before it went into development hell. Fans waited what felt like an eternity for this game to make its way out into the marketplace. We saw the game project exchange developer hands between its announcement and the eventual release. It wouldn’t be until Dambuster Studios received the IP that we saw Dead Island 2 actually launch into the marketplace earlier this year.

Dead Island 2 is one of those PC games that only support AMD FSR 2 instead of NVIDIA DLSS 2 (or Intel XeSS, for that matter). However, modder PotatoOfDoom fixed that with a simple mod available for download via Nexus Mods. To install it, just extract everything in the archive on the same folder of the DeadIsland-Win64-Shipping.exe file. PotatoOfDoom had already accomplished the same result with SEGA's Judgment game, which later received native DLSS support. Let's hope it happens here, too.
