A good few months after a sale was first reported to be on the table, Embracer has now confirmed the sale of Gearbox Entertainment to Take-Two Interactive for $460 million. This brings Gearbox in house with long term publishing partner 2K Games, who still had publishing rights to the Borderlands franchise, even with the developer under Embracer’s ownership.

It's looking increasingly likely that Gearbox Entertainment is going to be sold by Embracer. In a town hall with staff earlier this week, CEO and co-founder Randy Pitchford reportedly told staff that a decision had been made regarding the studio's future, with more details to be shared in March.

As hinted at in a PEGI rating from December 2022, Borderlands 3 is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. The Ultimate Edition launches on October 6th for the platform, retailing at $59.99. The base game is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.

The Borderlands series has been one of 2K’s biggest sellers for as long as it has been around, and that continues to be the case. In fact, roughly four years on from its launch, the last mainline instalment in the series – Borderlands 3 – is continuing to move units at a steady clip.
