There’s a lot to love about PS5, but it’s missing one key feature from the old PS4 — themes. On the old console, themes were used as a way to customize your homescreen and were often inspired by iconic games or beloved characters. I was already on board with Sand Land's beautiful open world, based on the relatively obscure manga from Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. The 2024 DICE Awards, organised by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, has just happened. Back in January, the nominees for the industry awards were announced, with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 leading the charge. It was always going to be a tall order for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to emerge from the shadow of the mighty Arkham series. From an architectural perspective the game has moved from Unreal Engine 3 to 4, while from an art and style perspective think more multi-coloured Marvel comics than a dark DC tome. From the bright sunshine across Gotham City and vibrant greens, reds and purples, each character and enemy stand in stark contrast to the subtle and muted tones of Rocksteady’s prior games. The same wide-open city is available to you early on, and each of the 4 playable characters have their own unique and fast means of travel. However, this presents one of our biggest issues when it comes to performance.

Gorillaz co-founder - and Tank Girl co-creator - Jamie Hewlett is returning to comics with a new cover for the third volume of Rafael Grampá's Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham.  The cover is available in two formats – the "portrait" variant is open to order, the wraparound is a 1:25 ratio variant. Investors and publishers spend billions of dollars on the video game industry each year, but just a small fraction of that money goes toward funding game companies led by women and those from other marginalized groups. Even as venture capitalist funding surged in 2021 as a response to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, video game companies led by all-male founders brought in $4.1 billion in funding to the $1.2 million for companies with all-female founders, according to data provided to Polygon from investment research company PitchBook. It might be a bit of a controversial take, but I’ve always preferred the Ace Attorney games with Apollo Justice over those with Phoenix Wright. That’s not to say the Phoenix Wright originals are bad, but I just found Apollo a far more relatable and likeable character. That probably says a lot about me, but it’s why I’m so happy that Capcom  has finally graced us with a collection of Apollo’s various Chords of Steel workouts with the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy.

Realm of Ink first crossed our path in November, its art style and showcased gameplay looking both incredibly artistic and fast-paced. Having now had some hands-on time with Realm of Ink, the game shows a lot of promise. At its most basic, Realm of Ink sets out its stall like Hades but instead of fighting through the underworld gaining the favour of gods, you’re fighting through a storybook aiming for freedom.

Earlier this month, I witnessed a digital miracle. In a press briefing ahead of CES, Nvidia showed off a demo for its Ace microservice, an AI suite capable of generating fully voiced AI characters. I watched in awe as a demoist spoke to an in-game NPC through a microphone, only to have the digital character respond in real time. It was a true sci-fi feat, but there was one question: How did it learn to do that?
