Pokemon Concierge was released on Netflix earlier this month, which was a delightful breath of fresh air for the series, and depicted a more calm and zen-like experience in the Pokemon universe. It was a smash hit for Netflix, and one that prompted fans of the series to start asking two questions. One, when are we getting more seasons, and two, when will Game Freak smell the roses and turn this concept into an actual video game?
While it may not be Game Freak, a couple of fans of the series have combined their creative efforts to turn Pokemon Concierge into a Game Boy game (thanks Kotaku). We'll start off by introducing Twitter user Brandon James Greer, who transformed Pokemon Concierge into a piece of pixel art and shared it with fellow Pokemon fans. Greer even went as far as to document exactly how they went about creating the piece, which you can watch on their YouTube channel.
Clearly inspired by the piece of art and its Game Boy aesthetic, another Twitter user called GB Studio Central teamed up with Greer to actually run the artwork on a standard Game Boy. A little under two weeks after Greer posted the initial artwork, GB Studio came back with the whole thing running on an actual Game Boy, though the limitations of the hardware made it "a tonne of effort". Just like Greer, GB Studio also goes in-depth into how they ported the art from a GIF on the Internet to a Game Boy screen, and the challenges faced dring the process.
Unfortunately, the game itself isn't actually playable, as much as we all wish it was. Instead, it serves as an incredible tribute to both Nintendo hardware of old and Pokemon Concierge, and is proof that the show could actually function as a video game if Game Freak and Netflix had the desire to make one. At the very least, Netflix needs to make a Season 2, or we riot.
It would be a lot more welcome than Palworld at the very least, which has been dominating social media over the past week due to certain Pals looking extremely similar to existing Pokemon. The latest development in that whole debacle had Palworld players tearing into Pal and Pokemon models to prove that they weren't AI-generated or stolen, determining that, no, they probably aren't. Now let's all move on with our lives, eh?
