Arkane Studios was in attendance at The Game Awards to announce a new project, but no one could have guessed what that announcement would turn out to be. It wasn’t Dishonored 3, or Deathloop 2, and it certainly wasn't a sequel to Redfall. Instead, Arkane announced that they’ve partnered with Marvel to develop a new game centered on everyone’s favorite daywalker, Blade.

In 2019, Arkane founder Raphaël Colantonio left the studio after nearly two decades. During his tenure, he served as president and co-creative director, working on games like Dishonored and Prey. That same year, Colantonio teamed up with former Arkane exec Julien Roby to open WolfEye Studios.

Bethesda Softworks, Arkane Studios Lyon, Marvel Games have announced Marvel’s Blade, a “mature, single-player, third-person game” with an original story based on the comic book hero Blade. Platforms and a release date were not announced. Development has only just begun.

Out of nowhere, it’s been confirmed that a game based on Marvel’s half-vampire, Blade, is in development from Bethesda and Arkane Lyon, in collaboration with Marvel Games. 

So after 2023, folks might be cautious about any new game that combines Arkane and vampires, and rightfully so. But at The Game Awards tonight, Arkane Lyon – AKA the ones behind the Dishonored games and Deathloop – came and debuted their latest game with Bethesda, which featured a cinematic with a barbershop in Paris that had a lot of crucifixes and a creepy atmosphere. At the end, though, the customer in this barbershop was revealed to be none other than one Eric Brooks, AKA Blade. Yep, Marvel’s favorite daywalker is officially getting a new game, as seen below.

Arkane Studios have had some ups and downs in the past few year, with Deathloop picking up numerous GOTY awards, but Redfall being pretty major disappointment. With that context, people have been wondering what may come next for the studio, and it turns out it’s not what anybody expected. Tonight at The Game Awards it was announced Marvel’s Blade is the next big project from Arkane Lyon.

As part of The Game Awards, Arkane Lyon announced that they have a new game coming up based on Marvel’s Blade.

After stumbling badly with the co-op shooter Redfall, Arkane Studios is trying its luck with yet another vampire game. This one looks to be quite a bit different, though: It's a new take on Marvel's Blade, which was revealed tonight in a surprise announcement at The Game Awards.

After the disastrous launch of Redfall, you'd have thought that immersive sim experts Arkane would have wanted to bust open the curtains and stay as far away from vampire games as physically possible. And yet here we are, with tonight's Game Awards reveal that they're making a Marvel Blade game. What are the chances? Will this second bite at making a (hopefully good this time) vampire game be the one? It's still early on in development, from the sounds of things, but here's the reveal trailer.

As the leaks suggested, the next game by Arkane Studios was announced at The Game Awards. But though many had expected that it would be Dishonored 3 we’d be seeing, what the developer actually brought turned out to be a massive surprise.

Arkane Studios has had a rough start after being acquired by Microsoft. When the Xbox team managed to get ZeniMax Media, it came with a few studios, such as Arkane. They were known for delivering some thrilling single-player gameplay experiences. However, their first release into the marketplace while under the Xbox banner was a massive flop.  Redfall  didn’t hit the expectations of fans and critics alike. Despite that, it’s a title that still sees support from the studio. But what their next project will be remains a mystery. That mystery might be unveiled this week if an industry insider is to be believed.

Redfall may have left behind a major dent in Arkane Studios’ track record and reputation as a whole, but this is still the studio that brought us games like Dishonored, Prey, and Deathloop, so there’s naturally going to be plenty of excitement around what it will develop next. Interestingly enough, we’ll actually be getting some information on that pretty soon, as per a fresh leak.

Thief: The Dark Project is 25 years old, but it's still one of the best stealth games around, with an active community making fan missions for both it and The Dark Mod, a standalone recreation made with the Doom 3 engine of all things. The Black Parade is for Thief Gold rather than the Dark Mod, the definitive 1999 rerelease with extra maps, which is the version you'll find going for seven bucks on Steam today.

Despite a rough release and not many people remaining to play it on Steam, Redfall is not yet Deadfall. On Friday, Arkane put out a large update to the game that addresses performance and stability concerns, bugs, accessibility and QoL shortfalls, and even adds new combat encounters and player actions.

Redfall, the underbaked and doomed FPS from Prey and Dishonored studio Arkane, once sat alongside your Starfields, your Halos, and your Microsoft Flight Sims in the Xbox events of yore (2021), but then, well, it came out earlier this year, and that put paid to that. Between the bugs and limp, lacklustre gameplay, the game felt beyond saving to me, and it feels like Microsoft might agree. Since Redfall's 1.1 patch in June this year, the game has lain dormant, save for the odd chirrup from its Twitter account.

News that Dishonored 3 is in development at Arkane has been met with trepidation by Arkane fans still reeling after Redfall. 

I've sometimes worried that I'm the only person who remembers Arkane's sophomore outing: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, a more fun and loose take on the immersive sim where you get to lead guys into slapstick traps and kick orcs off high ledges. That's far from the case though, as the wiltOS modding team has been working for years now to breathe new life into the game, and they've even gotten the all-clear from Ubisoft to do so.
