More often than not these days, video game characters are modeled after real people. A lot of fan-favorite characters, such as Ashley in Resident Evil 4, Dina in The Last of Us Part 2, and Alan Wake in Alan Wake 2, are just a few examples of this. Mary Jane in both of Insomniac's Spider-Man games is another good example, but sometimes the extra attention of being a face model can be too much.

Very few video game promotional products can actually make graphics better, but the official eyeglasses from Warby Parker can do just that. A tie-in between prescription glasses and a video game release is a different breed of cross-promotion from the norm, as fans usually see products aimed at children, like fast food restaurant toys or limited run cereals. ' villain slate is comparatively modest, clocking in at a total of five, but this smaller cast works for the benefit of the spin-off's runtime and the constraints of its narrative.

has already set up a perfect plotline for Mary Jane Watson in a future game or DLC. Both and followed Mary Jane's career as an investigative journalist for the Daily Bugle, with her often finding herself in treacherous situations through the games' stealth sections.

There's no shortage of side activities in , with an abundance of suits for both Peter and Miles often unlocked as a reward for completing them. While some side activities such as "" can function somewhat independently of the game's main narrative, and act as a way to set up a potential future DLC storyline, others such as the Emily-May Foundation experiments feed directly into Peter Parker and Harry Osborn's main aspirations to «heal the world».

Just as we're all wrapping our heads around the idea that the new Ultimate Spider-Man is an adult Peter Parker who is married to Mary Jane with two kids, Marvel has now unveiled our first look at Spider-Man's arch-enemy, the Green Goblin on the cover of Ultimate Spider-Man #2 by series artist Marco Checchetto. Both heroes take on their Spider-Man persona to fight crime in the city and stop Kraven’s plans, as they try to understand the presence of the Symbiote known as Venom. Other than Peter and Miles, there are many returning characters, such as Mary Jane.

It’s been a week since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dropped. The game received rave reviews, and gamers are having a ball playing it. The game mechanics are a dream; the graphics are spectacular, especially the spatial layout and design of New York and its surroundings. Gliding and web-slinging through the urban landscapes on a mission is an exhilarating experience. The game is great even if you change characters, like switching from Peter Parker to Miles Morales. Other highlights in the game are the story and Spider-Man’s gadgets. Reviewers can ramble about what’s been great about the game, but sometimes even great games come with problems. One such problem is popping up online from players complaining about a side mission with Hailey Cooper in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Mary Jane Watson plays a significant role in , both from a narrative perspective as Peter's girlfriend, but also as a temporarily playable character, and most interestingly as part of one of the game's more surprising twists. MJ was introduced to the Spider-Man canon in 1965; since then she has gone on to become Peter Parker's main love interest and the principal beneficiary of his affection in the franchise's many movies, comics, and video games.

Harry's fate in is somewhat ambiguous. Full name Harry Osborn, he's an old friend of Peter and Mary Jane's, going back to their school days at Midtown High. He also happens to be the son of brilliant scientist and shrewd executive Norman Osborn, co-founder of the — to put it mildly — unethical conglomerate Oscorp.

continues many of the stories seen in its predecessors, from Peter and Miles grieving the loss of loved ones to the return of Harry Osborn and the long-awaited Venom symbiote. However, one character's transformation within the series may come as a surprise when they return in the recent sequel, at least for those who didn't play 's story DLC.

's story features far more shocking deaths than the previous two entries in the series. From classic Spider-Man characters to beloved NPCs, nobody seems to be safe in Insomniac's latest superhero title.

For the majority of my adult life, I have been a journalist. Interviewing, reporting, researching, watching the best Dragon Ball Z fights on YouTube while I procrastinate on a deadline — I’ve done it all. Or maybe I haven’t. Because, in Spider-Man 2, being a journalist almost exclusively involves sneaking around and zapping mercenaries with a sci-fi stun gun. This is something I have never, ever done.

A huge selling point for was the fact that it would allow players to assume control of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales' heroes. Both Spider-Men have been the leads of their own titles in the series, but the sequel has managed to bring their stories together with the option to switch between the two on the fly while exploring New York to embark on character-specific side-missions or experiment with their different abilities.

features an engaging — and often dark — narrative that includes many notable deaths. This has pushed the heroes of Insomniac's universe into some interesting new places, but it also means that several villains have met their ends by the time the credits roll — and even before the start of the game. Surprisingly, though, many of these deaths occur off-screen and may be easily missed if players aren't paying attention during a specific mission.

Playing as Mary Jane Watson made for some of the most disappointing segments of the original, but the sequel makes some big changes to address the common complaints. Following more than one perspective in a video game can often be valuable and interesting, even if its taking time away from something as fundamentally enjoyable as playing as Spider-Man himself. The idea of stepping into Mary Jane's shoes was a good one on paper, but the game unfortunately didn't support it well enough from a gameplay perspective for it to ultimately feel worthwhile.

The finale of is incredibly dramatic, befitting the narrative's high stakes and deeply personal character arcs. Insomniac Games' latest sees the two Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, working side-by-side to stop Kraven's Great Hunt from ravaging New York City. Although a daunting foe in his own right, Kraven isn't the only marquee villain in; the Venom symbiote emerges to spread the Spider-Men even thinner, threatening both the city as a whole, and those closest to the web-slinging heroes.

We're just heading into the last chunk of 2023, but Marvel Comics is already looking ahead to next year with the release of the publisher's January 2024 solicitations.

is electric, telling a breakneck story of two protagonists and everyone in their immediate circle with continually escalating, incredibly crisp gameplay. Right from the outset, feels as though it’s taken a significant step above its 2018 and 2020 predecessors. A large and varied cast of characters is impressively juggled while players are set loose as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. City-wide spectacle is constantly juxtaposed with intimate, character-driven moments, all underpinned by the truly unsettling emergence of the alien symbiote hoping to reach the height of its potential as Venom.
