's story features far more shocking deaths than the previous two entries in the series. From classic Spider-Man characters to beloved NPCs, nobody seems to be safe in Insomniac's latest superhero title.
[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.]Death looms heavily over, with Kraven's «great hunt» seeing the wealthy game hunter travel to New York in search of its many superpowered inhabitants, hoping to find one he considers to be "." The game's other main storyline focuses on Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's childhood friend, Harry Osborn, who is dying of a terminal illness, and the fallout of the experiments with the alien symbiote that seemingly cured him.
The first major victim of Kraven's great hunt is Mac Gargan, aka Scorpion. Scorpion is one of many R.A.F.T. inmates who is broken out by Kraven, and while he never gets to have a rematch with Spider-Man, he can be seen engaging in combat with Kraven in one memorable cutscene.
Scorpion attempts to use the hallucinogens in his tail as he strikes at Kraven, but exploring Kraven's lair as Mary Jane beforehand reveals that Kraven studies his opponents well and likely devised a way to make himself immune to these effects. Kraven cuts off the stinger and stabs Gargan in the stomach, mercilessly killing him with ease and setting himself up as a truly menacing villain.
Many of Spider-Man's other classic rogues from the previous games die off-screen too, which comes as a shock. While exploring Kraven's lair, Mary Jane finds Electro's armor and Vulture's wings alongside Kraven's recordings about how he bested them, confirming their deaths. The name of Shocker's alter-ego, Herman Schultz, is also spotted on the door of a holding cell opposite Martin Li's in Kraven's lair. Miles is placed into Kraven's arena and forced into a fight "" against Li. What's more, it's clearly stated that Li had been forced to kill others in a similar way, with the implication being that Shocker was one of his slain opponents.
