This article has SPOILERS for Marvel's Spider-Man 2
The Insomniac version of Peter Parker might not be as finished with crime-fighting as the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 seemed to indicate, at least not according to Yuri Lowenthal. The latest installment of Insomniac’s well-received Marvel’s Spider-Man series put Peter through even more emotional turmoil than ever, as he was forced to confront his own darker impulses while under the influence of the alien Symbiote — and then his childhood friend Harry Osborn after he becomes the monstrous Venom. Meanwhile, his fellow wall-crawler Miles Morales came into his own in Spider-Man 2, bringing Peter back from the brink and helping fend off Venom’s Symbiote invasion.
At the very end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter decides to take a break from being a superhero to focus on building his life with Mary Jane, with Miles assuring him that he can protect New York by himself for as long as Peter needs him to. Some players interpreted this as Peter retiring as Spider-Man for good, with Insomniac stating that Miles would be the primary web-slinger of its Marvel games going forward. This proved to be as controversial as Miles’s Spider-Man 2 endgame Evolved Suit, especially with the final cutscenes of the last game hinting that Peter will face the Green Goblin in the eventual Spider-Man 3.
Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal recently weighed in on the idea of his character hanging up his webs for good after Spider-Man 2 during an interview with Variety. When the topic was brought up, Lowenthal stated that he doesn’t believe Peter will retire from Spider-Man completely — as much as he would like to live a normal life and let Miles deal with dangerous supervillains on a daily basis. “While I think that Peter would love to believe that he can just turn it off and not be Spider-Man anymore and live a completely normal life,” Lowenthal said, “I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen now.”
Yuri Lowenthal went on to note that he hasn’t read the script for any future Spider-Man games, and he doesn’t know what Insomniac’s plans are going forward any more than the average player. He also feels that Spider-Man 2 left Peter on an interesting note by placing his full trust in Miles to carry on the duties of Marvel’s signature web-slinging superhero while he takes a much-needed break. Finally, Lowenthal pointed out that this isn’t the first time his version of Peter Parker took a brief sabbatical, as he and Mary Jane went on vacation in Symkaria during the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
“While I think that Peter would love to believe that he can just turn it off and not be Spider-Man anymore and live a completely normal life, I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen now.”

A concept trailer for Insomniac’s canceled Spider-Manmultiplayer game has just leaked online, giving fans a glimpse into what the ambitious project could have been like. Insomniac’s series of open-world Spider-Man games have earned critical acclaim from fans of Marvel’s legendary web slinger, starting with the successful Marvel’s Spider-Man back in 2018. A spin-off was released in 2020 in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which saw the titular teenage hero come into his own as a crime-fighter. Both he and Peter Parker returned as playable characters in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 last year, facing off against deadly villains like Venom and Kraven the Hunter while struggling with their own personal demons.
One of the things we learned in the massive Insomniac leak in late 2023 was that the studio had been working on a multiplayer game set in the Spider-Man universe, Spider-Man: The Great Web. Amongst the chaotic discussion over ethical news coverage and the headline reveals of an upcoming Venom game and a major leak of Wolverine development footage, the multiplayer game didn't gain too much traction. But now a trailer for the game seems to have leaked, and it appears to be further along in development than we thought
