Insomniac Games has said Spider-Man 2 will get a New Game Plus mode after its release.
It’s expected to be added to the game alongside a mission replay feature in a post-launch update, according to James Stevenson, Insomniac’s director of community and marketing.
“We’re working on an update for those features but they won’t be in Day 1”, he said in response to a question on Twitter, later adding: “Should be before end of year.”
Spider-Man 2 will be released exclusively for PS5 this Friday, October 20.
Insomniac has advised players who buy a physical copy of the game to download its launch day update.
While the disc-based version will be playable out of the box without a patch or online requirement, the studio said the day one patch includes “notable enhancements” made to the game since it went gold last month.
“This update features polish to the gold master version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 available on disc, which improves the opening sections of the game and includes other general refinements to your Spidey experience, including some additional Accessibility Options,” according to Insomniac.
The Spider-Man 2 review embargo lifted on Monday and critics have heaped praise on the title, making it one of Insomniac’s highest rated games to date.
“Marvel Spider-Man 2 is an incredibly confident sequel and one of 2023’s best games,” according to VGC’s 5-star review.
The game will reportedly be bundled with the new PS5 Slim console when it launches next month in the US.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a game you want to experience time and time again, so naturally many people are wondering whether the ability to replay missions is available at launch.
Either Miles Morales has taken a secret Cuban lover for whom he harbors a sense a national pride for, or the developers of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 made a pretty big mistake in the recent game.
Insomniac's community and marketing director says a fix is already on the way.
Miles Morales is New York-born and bred, but he's very proud of his mother's Puerto Rican roots. Not so much that he can remember what its flag looks like, apparently, as he instead chooses to hang the Cuban flag in his home in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Unsurprisingly, this was a mistake on the developers' part and one that will be fixed in a future patch.
Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is available worldwide, and while perfectly playable for those physical edition owners, it’s recommended to download the day one update. Patch notes are now available, revealing additional accessibility features and improvements.
Spider-Man 2 will receive a New Game+ mode as part of a post-launch update, later this year. As per Insomniac Games Community Director James Stevenson, just like the 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, those looking to replay the title and mop up all the side quests might have to wait a bit, though for now, simply beating it once grants access to an ‘Ultimate' difficulty setting for a fresh playthrough. For the uninitiated, a New Game + mode generally allows players to plunge back into a game's campaign in an overpowered state, as the in-game character carries over all unlocked abilities, tools and weapons, and gear upgrades.
Insomniac Games has shared the release notes for the day-one Spider-Man 2 update. Here's what the 1.001.002 patch does.
Insomniac has a tendency to cram its games full of additive bells and whistles at launch, with plenty of modes and additional features being available in the developer’s titles to allow players to get the most out of the games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, however, will have one or two such features missing at launch- though they will be coming in the not-too-distant future.
