Tess picks through the room’s remaining photos and yearbooks, her hand-drawn fingers reaching out to interact with 3D objects, revealing more of her backstory with each touch. The cuff of her jacket is jarringly familiar every time it enters the frame.

I fell in love with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time way back in 2003, when it helped redefine 3D action-adventure games with its clever rewind ability enhancing its environmental puzzles and fast, acrobatic combat. But while the aughts saw a bunch of sequels with similar elements, none ever quite hit the same heights as The Sands of Time – and the 2010s were a parched desert for the series. But like an oasis, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown finally nails what I loved about those classic Prince of Persia games, and it does so by placing the series' best ideas within a 2D Metroidvania framework that calls back to the roots of the 1989 original.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown launches next week. While we really dug the game (you can check out our review for more on that), there's one odd detail that stuck out we can't help but give its own article: one of the game's minor NPCs will be voiced by a text-to-speech program at launch, seemingly because someone — probably Ubisoft — forgot to record and add a human being's voice for the role.

 We know that “winning lots of awards” isn’t exactly a “critical game development goal” when creating a video game. After all, it’s impossible to know what people will think of your title after you make it, even if you’ve spent years working on it, and even if you DO get nominated, it’s not a guarantee you’ll win. That last part was personified by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 over the last month or so. Despite being one of the best games of 2023 by a large margin and being nominated for tons of awards across multiple sites and shows, it hasn’t exactly been “raking them in.”

If you think there’s been plenty of news about Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League recently, you’re not wrong. The game is coming out on February 2nd, and a recent preview video highlighted the divisive nature that the game is building up before its release. In short, while the story and characters, along with the cutscenes that have been viewed, are seen as pretty solid, the gameplay and other elements like the “live service” model haven’t made gamers content. There’s plenty of uncertainty going into it all. But, like in all things, there is a small bit of light that everyone can agree is good.

Blizzard Entertainment has finally confirmed the launch date of Diablo IV Season 3. Fans have been wondering if it had been delayed since the developers haven't shared any details yet. However, the game's login screen has now been updated with the notice that Diablo IV Season 3 will begin on January 23rd. More information is certainly forthcoming, either this week or the next.

Last September, SAG-AFTRA union members voted yes to authorize a video game strike. Now, just a few months later, SAG-AFTRA has signed an agreement with Replica Studios, an A.I. voice technology company, to allow game developers to use A.I. voices, as reported by Game Developer.

One of the latest to pay homage, Supernormal, says it's the spiritual successor to Allison Road rather than PT itself, another unreleased game that was heavily influenced by Kojima's aborted horror project. But doing the one thing Silent Hills and Allison Road couldn't, Supernormal has actually made it into our hands – and while it doesn't leave the same impact as its inspirations, it certainly has a few moments worthy of them… as long as you're prepared to get through its underwhelming first half to see them.

More often than not these days, video game characters are modeled after real people. A lot of fan-favorite characters, such as Ashley in Resident Evil 4, Dina in The Last of Us Part 2, and Alan Wake in Alan Wake 2, are just a few examples of this. Mary Jane in both of Insomniac's Spider-Man games is another good example, but sometimes the extra attention of being a face model can be too much.
