The Epic Games Store is taking another approach to combating Steam, as Epic today announced a new opt-in First Run Program that will trade the company's share of revenues for the first six months of release in exchange for exclusivity.

Epic is taking the fight to Steam by rolling out a new revenue sharing model in the form of Epic First Run, an initiative that will offer developers up to 100% of revenue for six months if their PC game remains exclusive to the Epic Games Store.

The program requires a six-month exclusivity period on PC only for 100% revenue share.

The era of the Epic Games Store PC exclusive has tailed off recently, but it seems Epic hasn’t given up on the concept. Initially, Epic tried to entice publishers with an attractive revenue split that saw them only take 12 percent of sales on their platform (Steam takes 30 percent) as well as some additional financial incentives. For a while, it worked pretty well for Epic – a number of games, including ones from major publishers like Ubisoft and Square Enix, signed exclusivity deals (most of which lasted a year). Ultimately though, the Epic Games Store didn’t quite take off the way the Fortnite publisher hoped and the audience a game gave up by not being on Steam was too much of a sacrifice for most publishers.

There are plenty of different digital storefronts available for PC games. Several of your favorite games are readily available, but most might prefer Steam. Valve’s Steam digital marketplace has been around for years, and it’s packed with quite a few features. So, having something that’s been available for a long time, along with likely quite a packed library of games, might not persuade you to try other competitor platforms. However, Epic Games Store has been making some big moves.

Trampoline Tales founder Dan Dilorio revealed the studio's most recent game, Luck Be a Landlord, has been banned across 13 countries on the Google Play Store. In his blog, Dilorio admitted to feeling "very aggravated" by those bans, which include the United Arab Emirates, Syria, and Tunisia.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak will be free on the Epic Games Store later this month. The well-received 2016 prequel to 1999 real-time strategy classic Homeworld arrives ahead of Homeworld 3, due early next year after multiple delays. The (usually $50) Deserts of Kharak will be available to claim on Epic’s storefront from August 24th to 31st.

It’s been quite a few years since Microsoft’s successful Xbox 360 platform launched. Quite a bit of attention was put onto the platform with thrilling video games, but we’re going to see a big change. Now if you’re still keeping your Xbox 360 consoles going and enjoying video games, it’s worth marking your calendars. There’s an official shutoff date for the Xbox 360 store. You’ll have a limited amount of time to go online and purchase Xbox 360 games and DLC from the official Xbox storefront. 

Like many people that near their eighteenth birthday, the Xbox 360 will soon lose support from its parent company. Today, an announcement on Xbox Wire revealed that the Xbox 360 store will be shutting down on July 29, 2024. This means you will no longer be able to purchase games or DLC on the console, and the Microsoft Movies & TV app will stop working altogether.

Like the Nintendo DS, Wii U, and PS3 storefronts before it, the Xbox 360 marketplace is shutting down. You'll still be able to buy backwards compatible titles from the Xbox One and Series X/S, but any games that did not get this support and are only available on the 360 will require physical copies to play. Going by what happened after the PS3 store closed, that means prices are going to go up.

The next free Epic Games Store title has been revealed.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection is coming to the Epic Games Store. And, to celebrate its arrival, it will be free for all players who claim it on their Epic Games Store account between July 27 and August 3. Previously the collection was only available on Steam, where it has over 10,000 reviews and a “Very Positive” consensus.

Microsoft and PayPal are expanding their partnership to allow Xbox owners in the United States to use Venmo as a payment method for games, movies, TV shows, and apps from the Xbox store. Customers can also use the new payment method for Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. When consumers pay with Venmo, they’ll have the option to purchase subscriptions or split payments upon purchase.
