Survios announced in 2022 that it was developing a new horror game based on the Alien franchise, and that game has now been formally unveiled. Titled Alien: Rogue Incursion, the single-player action horror game has been announced with a brief trailer that reveals its name, but doesn’t show any gameplay or offer any details on its story and setup.

VR game developer Survios and 20th Century Games will release, a new single-player, action-horror VR game set in the Alien universe.

Steel Wool Studios will release Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 for PlayStation 5 on June 20, the developer announced.

Microsoft’s expanded multiplatform efforts are set to continue later this month with the release of Sea of Thieves on PS5, and ahead of the port’s release, Rare has published an official FAQ, where a handful of new details and tidbits have been revealed.

Prior to its launch, Sony said it was expecting the PlayStation VR2 to outsell its predecessor, but things have certainly not panned out that way thus far. Over a year on from its launch, the PS VR2 has all but faded into obscurity, with a number of factors – from its high price to a dearth of meaningful software support – contributing to the virtual reality headset’s low sales.

Sony Group has paused production of its PS VR2 headset until it clears a backlog of unsold units, according to people familiar with its plans, adding to doubts about the appeal of virtual reality gadgets.

Sony has issued a new system software update for the PlayStation 5 that brings audio improvements to the DualSense controller, new features for Parties and Share Screen, and more. The update also adds the ability to adjust the brightness of the PS5's power indicator. PS5 system software update 9.00 is now rolling out and PlayStation users should get a notification for the same when they turn on the console.

PlayStation is the latest name to join an increasingly long list of companies that have been hit with layoffs in just the first two months of what’s already been a brutal year for the industry. With around 900 jobs being cut, a number of first-party studios are set to be impacted, including Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla, and Firesprite.

PlayStation VR2 is set to get support for VR games on PC this year, Sony has announced. The company confirmed Wednesday that it was testing the ability for PS VR2 to play PC VR games in addition to the already supported titles available via PS5. The PS VR2 launched in international markets in February 2023, and it made its India debut in December. The virtual reality headset is currently only compatible with the PS5 and does not support PS VR content from the previous generation.

The VR gaming genre is still present. It certainly feels, at least to me, that there was a more significant boom for VR in general a few years ago. However, it’s still an active community with developers launching new games and companies releasing more headsets into the market. Regarding console gaming, VR is mainly just featured for the PlayStation platform. However, Sony is working on bringing the PS VR2 support to PC this year. 

Sony Interactive Entertainment is currently testing PC support for its PlayStation VR2 headset with plans to launch in 2024, the company announced.

nDreams has announced virtual reality city creator Little Cities: Bigger! for PlayStation VR2. It is an enhanced version of Little Cities. It will launch on March 12.

Sony took impressive first steps forward with the original PlayStation VR headset, but PS VR2, which launched a year ago, hasn’t seen the level of success that many had hoped for. PlayStation hosted the year's first State of Play games showcase early Thursday, bringing a host of new announcements, reveals and updates on upcoming releases. Sony presented a deep dive into two of its first-party titles, with extended gameplay trailers for Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. The latter also finally received a release date — Shift Up's action-adventure title is arriving April 26. Team Ninja's Rise of the Ronin received a detailed gameplay trailer, showing off sword combat, special weapons, and traversal. We also got to know a bit more about the Edo period setting of the game, which takes right in the middle of the Japanese revolution.

PlayStation has announced the year's first State of Play games showcase event, set to stream January 31. The 40-minute showcase will feature extended looks at Shift Up's action-adventure title Stellar Blade and Team Ninja's action-RPG Rise of the Ronin, both of which will arrive on the PS5 this year. The State of Play event will cover over 15 games in total, providing more details on PS5 and PS VR2 titles releasing in 2024 and beyond. The event will be livestreamed on PlayStation's YouTube, Twitch and TikTok channels, starting Wednesday, January 31 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT, or 3:30am on Thursday in India.

Publisher Atari and developer Llmasoft will release psychedelic arcade game Akka Arrh for PlayStation 5 with PlayStation VR2 support in March, the companies announced.

Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and nDreams announced the post-launch roadmap for on Tuesday, including what to expect in the coming months.

Resident Evil 4 on the PS5 has gotten a major update, bringing VR Mode to the game. Owners of the PS5 version of the game can now play Resident Evil 4‘s VR Mode through the PlayStation VR2. A demo for the VR Mode is also out now on the PlayStation Store.

Though Bulletstorm has yet to see a sequel, People Can Fly is expanding on it with Bulletstorm VR. Launching next month, it features two exclusive levels with Trishka Novak in the leading role as she hunts General Sarrano (when not berating Grayson Hunt). Among Us has been one of the most popular and widely played games around for a while at this point, and last year, the multiplayer social deduction game also made the jump to VR with the launch of a dedicated port on Meta Quest 2 and Windows. A PS VR2 version was also confirmed to be in development, and now, it’s finally available.

Capcom has announced that the free VR Mode for Resident Evil 4 Remake, exclusive to PlayStation VR2, will be available on December 8th. There will also be a free demo that PS5 players can download, which includes the Shooting Range and a “360-degree look” of the opening.

Green Hell VR will soon be getting sizeable content additions, starting with a first drop scheduled for later this month. Developer Incuvo has announced that Spirits of Amazonia – the trilogy of expansions that launched for the original version of Green Hell a couple of years ago – will also be coming to the survival title’s VR version.

Following its announcement earlier in the year, People Can Fly confirmed in August that Bulletstorm VR would be launching on December 14, though with the game now less than a month away from its intended launch, the company has announced a delay, pushing its release back by a little over a month.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 will launch for PlayStation VR2 on December 14, developer Steel Wool Studios announced.

Japanese studio Apricot Heart has announced romance adventure game Koi-Koi: Love Blossoms for PlayStation 5 with PlayStation VR2 support. It will launch via PlayStation Store on November 15.

Earlier this year, Kinetic Games announced that its acclaimed multiplayer horror title Phasmophobia would be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PS VR2 soon, though the wait for that has dragged on a little longer than expected. Originally set to come to consoles in August, the release was delayed to October, though Kinectic Games has now announced another delay.

The wait is over, rockers. The new DLC Legendary Mix Vol I has arrived in Drums Rock. A set of bands from different styles and with great renown are coming to Drums Rock. Among them, The Offspring stands out as one of the most famous American punk rock bands, bringing one of their iconic songs to Drums Rock: You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid — a song with some special patterns that will make you feel like The Offspring’s drummer.

Publisher Humble Games and developer Sector D2 have announced and released Project Wingman: Frontline 59 for PlayStation 5 with PlayStation VR2 support via PlayStation Store for $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99. It is an enhanced version of Project Wingman.

Virtual reality action game Tiger Blade will launch for PlayStation VR2 on November 17, publisher Big Sugar and developer Ikimasho announced.

During PlayStation’s State of Play on Thursday, a Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord trailer was shown. The new multiplayer game will hit PS VR2 on October 26, 2023.

Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake received a new trailer during PlayStation’s latest State of Play, focusing on VR Mode. It’s a free addition to the game and arrives this Winter for PlayStation VR2. Check out the new trailer below.

It’s not just Nintendo that’s going to have an event for announcements and updates tomorrow. Sony has also announced that a State of Play broadcast is set for tomorrow, September 14, at 2 PM Pacific Time.

Pixel Reef has announced adventure and exploration game Paper Beast Enhanced Edition for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2. It will launch on September 27.

Publisher RapidEyeMovers and developer Wolf & Wood have announced the first free major content update for C-Smash VRS. It will launch on September 14.

Astro Bot hasn’t seen a major, flagship release so far, but though it doesn’t stand on the same footing as many of Sony’s other first party franchises, it’s still got a sizeable fanbase. Hugely responsible for that was Astro Bot Rescue Mission, with the PS VR-exclusive platformer having been widely by critics and audiences in the years since its launch. And it seems Sony may be looking to bring it to its current-gen VR headset, too.

Kinetic Games’ multiplayer horror title Phasmophobia has been something of a revelation ever since its PC early access release back in 2020, and earlier this year, the developer confirmed that it would be opening the gates for an even larger community with a console launch. That launch, however, has been delayed by a couple of months.

CharacterBank will release virtual reality RPG RUINSMAGUS: Complete for PlayStation VR2 on September 19, the developer announced. It includes both the main game and its downloadable content “The Warrior and the Tailor.”

The PlayStation VR2 is only a few months old yet, but so far in its life, it’s in desperate need of proper killer apps. First Contact Entertainment’s first person shooter Firewall Ultra has looked like a game that could potentially fit that description since it was revealed last year (not least because its predecessor is still one of the best games in the original PS VR’s library), and now, we know exactly when it will be coming out.
