PlayStation is the latest name to join an increasingly long list of companies that have been hit with layoffs in just the first two months of what’s already been a brutal year for the industry. With around 900 jobs being cut, a number of first-party studios are set to be impacted, including Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla, and Firesprite.
In addition, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst has also confirmed in a message published on the official Sony Interactive Entertainment website that, as part of the company’s restructuring, the complete closure of SIE London Studio is also “proposed”.
SIE London Studio was founded in 2002, following which it went on to work on the Singstar and EyeToy lines of games, before going on to develop 2019’s acclaimed PS VR exclusive first-person shooter Blood and Truth.
In October 2022, the studio announced that it was working on a live service PS5 title set in a contemporary fantasy version of London. The game was set to be the studio’s most ambitious title to date.

It sounds like all is not well at Sony studio Firesprite, which the platform holder acquired in 2021. Despite moving into expensive new digs in its home city of Liverpool, a Eurogamer report paints an extremely grim picture of the outfit, which is allegedly bleeding staff and lost its managing director Graeme Ankers suddenly last May.
In case you missed the big news last week, PlayStation joined the rest of the industry in cutting hundreds of jobs across its business. What's more, the platform holder is closing one of its longest-standing developers, London Studio — but it seems another UK team may have been at risk, too.
