Sea of Thieves Will be Playable on PlayStation Portal, “No Plans” for PS VR2 Support

When Sony recently announced plans to bring PSVR2 to PC. It got me excited for PC VR because of it's excellent capabilities and since the Reverb G2 in 2020 there hasn't been a similarly equipped tethered headset at that price point of under $600.

Booty called, and boy did we answer. Earlier this week, the Sea of Thieves team revealed that 40 million of us had embraced our inner pirate and set sail since the game's debut across Xbox and PC. We seas-ed the day, if you will.

Sea of Thieves has surpassed 40 million lifetime players, Rare has revealed. This remarkable user milestone was achieved around the time Sea of Thieves concluded its immensely popular PlayStation 5 beta.

The PlayStation 5 Pro CPU is unlikely to improve performance in CPU-bound titles and may not even be enough to implement 40 FPS modes that are impossible on the base model.

Sea of Thieves has turned into a juggernaut following a somewhat rough launch over the last six years, and it refuses to shed any of its momentum. In fact, developer Rare has announced that the game recently surpassed another major milestone where its player numbers are concerned.

As PlayStation’s presence on PC has continued to grow with an increasing number of ports, many have wondered how long it’ll be before Sony brings full integration of things such as PlayStation Network and in-game Trophies to the platform, something that’s only been compounded with multiple reports over the last couple of years that have suggested the same.

After the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita, there wasn’t much hope that Sony would create another handheld system. Both consoles failed to establish themselves as meaningful parts of PlayStation’s ecosystems despite having passionate fan bases. That’s what made the initial reveal of the PlayStation Portal so surprising, at least until we knew exactly what it was. As an accessory, the PlayStation Portal is a decent device for some situations. It makes remote play easy and combines all the cool features of the DualSense controller with a great display. However, it does leave a lot to be desired for those hoping for a bit more from a new PlayStation device. Should Sony decide to iterate on this novel idea, there are a few features we think it needs to have to be a true success.

Developer Rare has kicked off the closed beta for the PS5 release of multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves. As a result, the studio has taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce that the PS5 players are facing waiting times that are much longer than usual because of an influx of new players.

It looks like PS5 players can't wait to don tricornes and raise anchor; Sea of Thieves is currently experiencing «longer wait times that normal», according to developer Rare, thanks to a «high volume» of new players joining the game as part of today's freshly launched PS5 Closed Beta.

Sony has revealed the slate of games joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog in April. In the coming weeks, PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier members will get access to deep-sea exploration RPG Dave the Diver, Metroidvania action title Tales of Kenzera: Zau, indie platformer Animal Well, open-world racing title Crew 2, action platformer Raji: An Ancient Epic and more. Most of these games will be available on the PS Plus catalogue on April 16. Tales of Kenzera: Zau and Animal Well, on the other hand, will join the service as day-one launch titles on April 23 and May 9, respectively.
