It’s not just Nintendo that’s going to have an event for announcements and updates tomorrow. Sony has also announced that a State of Play broadcast is set for tomorrow, September 14, at 2 PM Pacific Time.
Shawne Benson – Head of Portfolio at PlayStation’s Global Third Party Relations team – confirms on the PlayStation blog that the stream will focus on new updates for previously announced titles, including PS VR2 games, upcoming indie titles, and “major” upcoming games from third party partners. There’s no word on what the broadcast’s runtime will be.
Given that Sony’s next big first party release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, is just a little over a month away from launch now, it’s possible that the company will be showcasing the highly anticipated sequel again as well, especially considering the fact that day after tomorrow will also see new details and footage being shared via a fresh round of hands-on previews. Previously announced PlayStation Studios titles developed by external partners, like Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, could also potentially show up.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… will be available on the PS4. Another standout this month is Unpacking, a calm puzzle game where you pull possessions out of cardboard boxes and decorate homes — jumping in time and across houses to slowly unspool an intimate story. Well, it looks like we’ve got an E3 in September on our hands. Earlier today, it was announced a big Nintendo Direct was coming tomorrow (September 14) and now Sony has followed suit, saying they’ll also be bringing us a State of Play show on the same day. Thankfully, the State of Play will happen in the afternoon rather than the morning, so the showcases won’t literally overlap, but sheesh – don’t Sony and Nintendo have each other’s numbers? Couldn’t they have picked different days?
