Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson is returning to comics alongside former Lucifer comic artist Lee Garbett, colorist Lee Loughridge of DSTLRY's hit comic Somna, and letterer Simon Bowland for The Big Burn, the story of two demolition lovers enacting a hellish heist to steal their souls back from the devil himself. 

Back in January, the indie horror game The Night is Grey released after a grueling seven-year development process that just barely survived the dedication to frame-by-frame character animation, and despite positive reviews, it's still struggling to find an audience at the time of publication.

Below you’ll find a list of 19 new titles that hit shelves during the months of April and May (and one that came out in March that’s not to be missed).

Here’s one for all you connoisseurs of the horrific consequences of your own actions. Regicide-em-up visual novel Slay the Princess’ new update brings with it new dialogue and music, fleshing out the game with additional choices, expanded scenes, and orchestral renditions of some choice tracks. The new content takes the form of new animations and “more than 3,000 words of additional and restructured dialogue choices and conversations.” That is easily enough words to tell the Stanley Parable-esque narrator that you’re on to him and whatever mind games he’s playing, with enough left over for the other voices in your head to make you doubt your own morality with alarming frequency.

If ever there were a game not to play on a Monday when you've had minimal sleep and basically want to crawl under the table and eat three-day-old pizza, that game - or rather, free "tech demo" - is Fractal Sailor. The work of Struct9 founder Matej Vanco, it hands you a distressingly unwieldy and roofless hovership and cuts you adrift in a vast ocean of malevolent mathematics.

Renowned CAPCOM leaker Dusk Golem has revealed that the publisher's next major projects, Resident Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wilds, will both follow in the footsteps of Dragon's Dogma 2 with an open world design. Here's what Dusk Golem wrote on Twitter:

Dragon's Dogma 2 is finally here, and whether you love it or hate it, you can't deny the fact that it's Capcom's most ambitious open world project to date. It's a publisher known for experimentation, using its big blockbuster IP to push boundaries and deliver consistently new experiences to keep things fresh and exciting. Now that Capcom is experimenting with open world tech, it's been claimed that the publisher plans to use Resident Evil to build upon it.

Summer blockbuster is near, and if you need proof look no further than the avalanche of trailers that came out this week. From House of the Dragon and Furiosato Beetlejuice 2 and a terrifically ill-conceived children’s book adaptation, it seems like every studio wanted to be out in force advertising summer wares this week.

Horror movies have really been lacking in panache lately. Sure, there have been plenty of horror movies with great narratives or structural conceits, or excellent scares. But covering the basic elements of memorable horror isn’t the same as stretching stylistically, and brazenly committing to a specific aesthetic, time period, or vibe the way Shudder and IFC’s new horror movie Late Night with the Devil does. That movie, in theaters this week, has enough flair to make up for what the rest of the movies have been missing.

Shinji Mikami, one of the original creators of Resident Evil, has recently founded a new company under the name Kamuy Inc. Mikami gained notoriety as the director of Resident Evil, which went on to create and popularize the survival horror genre. Recently, he was part of Tango Gameworks, which he left in 2023. He's currently working with Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. on Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.

Diablo Immortal’s 2024 is shaping up to be one heck of a ride. They just revealed the Roadmap for this year. Kicking off the action is the Precipice of Horror update landing on March 27th. It’s just the beginning as Blizzard Entertainment has dubbed the entire year the Age of Unmaking.

Mike Flanagan has doubled down on his love for new horror movie Late Night with the Devil, amid controversy over the film's use of AI. The directors, Cameron and Colin Cairnes clarified its use in a statement to Variety.

Industria 2 just got announced as part of the Future Games Show Spring Showcase, and its debut trailer is certainly going to give me nightmares about what on earth is going on with those robots. 

Still Wakes the Deep finally exclusively reveals a release date at the Future Games Show in an all-new trailer. The new footage also details more of the gameplay and environments of this mysterious and atmospheric horror game, set on a disaster-stricken 1970s oil rig called the Beira D.  

Still Wakes the Deep will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store on June 18, publisher Secret Mode and developer The Chinese Room announced. It will also be available via Xbox Game Pass.

After Resident Evil 4 was successfully remade last year, this week another reimagining of a classic horror game dropped.

Alone in the Dark is the definition of slow burn horror – something that’s pretty much a given when playing, reading, or watching anything that takes heavy inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. A modern take of the 1992 classic created by Infogrames, it’s easy to see why THQ wanted to take a punt at reanimating the series, especially when you consider the back-to-back successes Capcom has enjoyed with its recent string of Resident Evil remakes. After all, it was Alone in the Dark that inspired Shinji Mikami in creating the very first Resident Evil all those years ago. Both games took place in a sprawling manor complex teeming with jump scares and puzzles, though Alone in the Dark veered more towards the occult and committing to a period setting.

Alienis one of the timeless films, a movie just as lived-in and horrifying today as it was when it premiered in 1979. Ridley Scott’s seminal horror film has gone on to be many other things since becoming a full-blown franchise, from the landmark sci-fi action of the James Cameron-directed sequel to the slasher shlock of the rightfully maligned Alien vs. Predator: Requiem.

Remedy Entertainment has said players should expect a “more regular cadence of sequels” for Alan Wake and Control.

In spite of all its shortcomings, Alone in the Dark is a game we can't help but have a soft spot for. It's packed full of glitches at launch. The combat feels awful. It's not scary whatsoever, and the stealth sequences are dreadful. Yet, there's such a clear passion for the survival horror genre coursing through it that it comes out the other side still a relatively enjoyable experience. On paper, Alone in the Dark is not a good video game. However, with a fondness for the PS1 original and that classic Resident Evil-style gameplay, it's a PS5 title with its heart in the right place.

The new Alone in the Dark game, a relaunch of the horror series that first launched in 1992, is not quite what we expected it to be. And for the most part, being surprised is a good thing in this case!

It’s been more than 30 years since the original Alone in the Dark made its debut, and now we’re coming full circle with the game that helped define the survival horror genre. Clearly having an influence on  Resident Evil with its puzzles, weight management system and overall creepy theme, the remake of Alone in the Dark has definitely borrowed a few things from more recent games in Capcom’s series. Unfortunately, Alone in the Dark can’t decide what it truly wants to be and falls a little flat by the time it wraps everything up.

I'm still genuinely astonished by the amount of Phasmophobia-likes that have spawned from the viral success of Kinetic Games' co-op ghost-hunting romp. I went through a phase of exclusively playing these types of games in which I uncovered some real gems like Devour and Forewarned, and I just might have found another in the somewhat clumsily named but innovative take on the genre, Ghost Bros.

The holy grail of TV recommendation is almost always a half-hour comedy. It’s not that people don’t want other stuff — a good thriller, weirder horror, or shows that go on forever that you can fold laundry to — but the thing most people I talk to will want at some point and burn through fastest is a half-hour comedy. I would say there’s only so many times you can watch 30 Rock or Seinfeld or Cheers all the way through, but history (and Nielsen ratings) shows that’s not true. And even still, the hunger for a new version of those is always there, particularly when you might have blitzed through one of your comfort sitcoms recently. Which is why it’s so great that you can now watch Girls5Eva on Netflix, and with a new season to boot.

Crow Country, the retro survival horror game from the developer of Snipperclips!, now has a release date: 9th May across both Steam and PlayStation 5.

Crow Country and its spooky, mutant-stuffed theme park will be opening its gates on Steam on May 9th, developers SFB Games have announced. It's the first of two games from the Tangle Tower micro-studio coming to PC this year, the other one being The Mermaid's Tongue, which will be picking up the adventures of their Tangle Tower detective duo on a marginally less spooky-looking submarine later this year. Crow Country, however, is a very different kettle of fish, combining chunky, PS1-style Final Fantasy 7 character models with early Resident Evil tank controls and panicked monster shooting.

I’ve fallen in love with sci-fi colony management RimWorld, which is unparalleled at creating wild stories through random gameplay events. RimWorld has a few expansion packs, adding things like royalty, religion, gene-editing, and child rearing to the game. Today, Ludeon Studios announced a new expansion pack is on the way, and it’s going to be the scariest one yet: Anomaly.

We knew it was coming, particularly considering the ultimate demise of E3, but today Geoff Keighley announced when this year’s big Summer Game Fest kickoff show will take place. This year’s event will be livestreamed to the world on June 7 and once again emanate from the Los Angeles' YouTube Theater.
