For the cybernetic citizens of, futuristic slang is part of everyday conversation — but for players conversing in the modern day, it can be a point of confusion. The varied vernacular of Night City can be jarring at first, especially to those who are not versed in the complex, intricate lore of the long-running franchise. At times, it can even feel like V and their acquaintances are speaking another language entirely. However, by familiarizing themselves with even just a few slang terms and their definitions, one can cultivate a far richer and more immersive gameplay experience.

When Leviathan Fallshit bookstores in November 2021, James S.A. Corey — aka authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck — made it very clear to Polygon: The Expanse series was over. Fans could be sad, but not really blame them; after 10 years, well over 5,000 pages, and a hit Syfy/Prime Video TV adaptation, a universe had been effectively spun. The duo had “told the story [they] wanted to tell.” There were new sagas to write, though — as evidenced by The Mercy of Gods.
is not another iterative sequel, but a detailed overhaul of the foundation which made the original game so relentlessly bleak and mechanically challenging. As a distressing choice-driven adventure game masquerading as a city-builder/survival experience, 11 Bit Studios’ tumbled genre expectations on release, tasking players with the construction, maintenance, and expansion of an increasingly complicated urban stronghold in the dead of a volcanic winter., for better and possibly for worse, amplifies the original’s thesis while discarding a few vestigial aspects; frankly, this is the epitome of a divisive sequel.
City builders and survival games can be difficult genres to ease yourself into. They can seem especially daunting when they’re a sequel to a predecessor built on as complex foundations as Frostpunk was. It's pleasantly surprising, then, that Frostpunk 2 feels so welcoming to new players. As someone not fully versed in the two genres it blends so delicately, and with just a handful of hours in the original Frostpunk, I loved my time with its prettier, and thoroughly political sequel. Largely thanks to the neverending series of moral conundrums thrown my way, I had a lot of fun in New London, even if all of the citizens I tried to save experienced the complete opposite.
One of the core aspects of is its settlement building system, which allows the Sole Survivor to clear neglected areas and turning them into thriving small towns. As well as needing food, water, and power, these settlements can be upgraded with defenses and eventually traders. While any settler can be assigned to a trading stall, there are several unique NPCs dotted around the commonwealth that, as well as enhancing the stock, are pretty cool to have around.

Cardy, Matt, and Mat are here this week to talk about cursed meals they've eaten. Before all of that, though, there are thoughts on the madness that is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, why Hellblade 2 isn't quite working for them, the intriguing concept behind sci-fi survival game The Alters, and another of Cardy's foreign film recommendations in the shape of Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster.
The newest is here and today's game is ready to break some long-standing win streaks. There is a fun and eclectic mix of categories in today's selection without any of them being too niche. Broad categories tend to be easier to decipher, but this particular day still has some difficulty.

2023's release of was, in a way, Bethesda Game Studios' long-awaited return to single-player RPGs following 2015's . is certainly more ambitious than its predecessor – it's immense scale is almost unrivaled – but it's not uniformly iterative, even if 's May 2024 update makes significant strides. makes some welcome reversions, like abandoning the much maligned voiced protagonist that tanks 's roleplaying potential, but despite the long wait for, it still feels like a step backward regarding certain features.

DayZ just announced a brand-new map called Sakhal as part of the upcoming Frostline expansion, set in the far east of Russia, based on the real-life Kamchatka Peninsula. It's the smallest map to date, covering 83 km2 of land, which makes it about half the size of Chernarus.
In , players are charged with maintaining the well-being of their citizens and settlements. While bandits and the ever-approaching winter months are a constant threat, diseases, and sickness are equally dangerous. Disease can easily sweep through villages and wipe out large chunks of the population, but there are ways to fight off illness in.
It feels a little bit like cheating in Manor Lords, but the development upgrades you can get can do some powerful things to improve your settlement. However, to balance things out, the development points you need to unlock these enhancements are given out very sparingly. In fact, you won’t get even close to the amount needed to unlock everything on the sphere grid. To make matters even more stressful, there’s no way to undo a choice you make, so any point spent in error is locked in until you start a new game. There’s none that can make your game harder, but if you pick one that offers no benefit to your current settlement or goals, it might as well be a negative in terms of the opportunity cost. For the best experience, here are the developments you should invest in first.
May 9’s answer shouldn’t be too hard to solve as it is a ubiquitous food item that one can buy at gas stations and grocery stores. While the answer only has one vowel, finding the correct positions of other letters first is more important. While it is possible to guess the answer in less than six attempts, you will have a better chance if you use some hints or starting words that give a slight advantage.

Minecraft has added tons of new mobs to the game over the years, both friendly and hostile. These include things like friendly cats and birds, to more obscure picks like bees and axolotls. Every animal serves a purpose, however, including the armadillo. These curious little critters are skittish and can't be tamed like a normal pet, but they do provide a very useful resource. If you manage to trap a pair, you will want to breed them to get as much as possible, but what does an armadillo even eat? It took us a while to figure it out, but we'll share the secret with you to breed armadillos.

You can already pre-order it from online retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Bookshop.org.

Primary stat increasing augment runes are returning in The War Within, with the Crystallized Augment Rune. Hopefully they won't be quite so rare this time around! First added in Warlords of Draenor, Augment Runes are consumables providing a minor increases to strength, intellect, or agility, similar to food buffs in not normally persisting through death but with the added downside of being much less widely available.
The second War Within build has added a variety of interesting models, including more Nerubian raid weapons, garden shovels, and hearty feasts.
Building your population in Manor Lords is one thing, but making sure they want to stick around and continue to grow is the real challenge. You could have the ideal design for a village, or the perfect tactical mind for conquering the entire map, but if your approval rating is too low, you won't survive your first winter.
Splotter Spellen Games have stayed with me since I started gaming and before I started logging plays in 2017. My tastes have dramatically changed over the years, but owning and playing Splotters hasn’t stopped. In fact, I rarely pre-order games (Kickstarters included) and I pre-ordered 2023’s release. I think all their games have unique ideas, themes, and a lot of strategies through fairly condensed rules. They aren’t games that have wide appeal, as their designs are built under a philosophy: “If you can’t lose the game on turn one, what is the point of having a turn one?” Of their 15 released games, only seven of them received multiple print runs or wider releases. It would have been six, but they happened to release a game last year. Those seven are all good, but allow me to rank them based on my taste and preferences.

Farmers in Lego Fortnite will be thrilled to hear that you can now collect farm animals, adding them to your villages. After being brought in to tiny barns, they’ll produce materials for you in exchange for food.
We're closing in on a year since the release of Pokemon Sleep. A game/lifestyle app The Pokemon Company had been radio silent on for so long after its announcement that some of us were convinced it had all been a dream. Pokemon Sleep users have their phones unlocked next to them while they slumber and various Pokemon will be waiting to meet them in the morning depending on their sleep style. There will naturally be some sort of anniversary event announced for Sleep's first birthday, but if you really want to celebrate a year of the game in style, you can do so in an official Pokemon Sleep suite.
Infection Free Zone, now in Steam Early Access, has a basic premise: Zombies have taken over the world, driving humanity into underground bunkers to wait the plague out. Eventually, the radio fires up, and a message goes out that the disease is fading. While the surface is still dangerous, it’s time to step up and make an attempt to build a new society.

Typically, playing city-based or civilization-building games is a relaxing experience for me. There’s an inherent satisfaction in something I created in Cities: Skylines 2 or Mini Motorways running efficiently based on my actions. I’m content with spending dozens of hours crafting a functioning world, and only occasionally having my skills tested in a high-intensity situation. Frostpunk 2 from 11 bit Studios is a city-builder where those feelings are often reversed. Most of my time playing its beta was extremely stressful, as I constantly had to make difficult decisions in order to preserve a society that established itself in a frosty postapocalypse.

In response to the high volume of requests for its inclusion, Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada has made perhaps the inadvisable decision to ask fans why they want a Waffle House level added to the game. For the uninitiated or the international, Waffle House is an American restaurant chain, with most of the company's 1,900 US stores located in the midwest and south of the country.

April Fools is one of the most unpredictable days of the year, and the amazing editor of created something a little different for this day of mischief. During the lifespan of the Nintendo DS, DSi, and 3DS which all released at different times they released many different limited addition versions of the handheld console. One of these limited addition DSi consoles was a McDonald’s branded one that is super rare.

From battling mobs and crafting armor to exploring new biomes and more, there's a lot of content to explore in Minecraft. One of the more laidback pastimes is starting a farm, as the game lets you breed a variety of animals to bring your idyllic ranch to life. And, oddly enough, the same breeding system that lets you create new animals also works for villagers – giving you a simple way to build a bustling city without much effort.
Folks seem pretty down on Dungeons & Dragons lately, and not for no reason. The company that owns it, Hasbro, continues to stick its foot in it — first with the whole OGL fiasco this time last year, and most recently with some conflicting comments from the company’s CEO regarding its stance on AI. But the gang at Worlds Beyond Number, the wildly popular Patreon-funded actual-play podcast, is still all-in on the seminal role-playing game. In fact, their most recent behind-the-scenes episode is serving to remind me why 5th edition D&D remains so popular — both with at-home players and with performers at Dimension 20, Critical Role, and elsewhere.
In 2015, Tony wrote a Top 10 list about the ten required expansions. Well, it’s been nearly a decade and board gaming has only grown exponentially since then. I wanted to take the time to go through all of the expansions that have been released in the last (nearly) ten years to discuss what expansions feel required for their base game these days.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater won't change the story or fundamental game design of the original Konami game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 resists you at every turn. Seemingly every mechanic in this sprawling RPG — from combat to exploration to the pawns who resolutely follow you around — is complex in a way that eludes quick explanation. Even the save system doesn’t make sense.
Being a Vanillaware title, the recently released (and excellent) strategy RPG Unicorn Overlord bears immediate resemblance to the Japanese developer's previous outings, like Muramasa: Rebirth, Dragon's Crown, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. This is because longtime artist and studio co-founder Shigatake insists on depicting food as hyper-realistically as possible and defying the laws of physics when it comes to depicting the female form.
With lovely strategy RPG Unicorn Overlord being a Vanillaware title, it obviously has a cute little minigame where you scarf down illegally delicious-looking food. It turns out the main artist behind these entreating entrees is also responsible for the way the game upholds another Vanillaware quirk: curiously jiggly women.
