Destiny 2: The Witch Queen leads the pack of new titles coming to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/ Premium catalogue, this month. Starting August 15, all high-tier PS Plus members can delve into Savathûn's Throne World, as you uncover the mystery of how she and her Lucent Hive stole the Light — across a set of maps ranging between gothic cathedrals, palaces, swamps, and a mysterious black pyramid on the icy moon of Europa. Often considered one of the best Destiny 2 campaign packs, it will be available on the PS4 and PS5. Another key highlight this month is Sea of Stars, an eye-catching indie RPG, where two Children of the Solstice head out on an adventure to defend the lands against the monstrous creations of an evil alchemist. This one, however, is slated to drop a bit later on August 29.

Bungie has announced that actor Keith David will be taking up the role of Commander Zavala in Destiny 2 going forward. The studio made the announcement through a blog post, and has further stated that Zavala will be sticking around in Destiny 2‘s future storylines.

Earlier this year, Destiny 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn (among many other roles) actor Lance Reddick passed away unexpectedly. In Destiny 2, Reddick played Commander Zavala – an important recurring character in Destiny lore. Reddick was also an outspoken fan of the game that engaged with the community often, so recasting his role was always going to be a difficult task.

Destiny 2 is one of today’s most influential space games, and it’s largely due to how well-written Bungie’s cast of characters is in-game. From Osiris to Commander Zavala, Destiny 2 has a variety of iconic faces beloved by fans from all over the globe. Lance Reddick, the English voice of Zavala, passed away unexpectedly earlier this year. A new voice actor will now take on the role, and many long-standing Bungie fans may recognize his name from Halo.

After Lance Reddick’s unfortunate passing earlier this year, many in the Destiny 2 community were unsure how Bungie would handle the character Commander Zavala, whom Reddick voiced brilliantly for so many years.

Bungie has announced that Commander Zavala’s journey in Destiny 2 isn’t over and that his late voice actor, Lance Reddick, will be replaced by Keith David for the English language in the upcoming The Final Shape expansion and beyond.

This character played an iconic role, so finding out the actor passed was a huge hit in the Destiny community. While we still mourn his loss and cherish the content from his previously released projects, the future was uncertain regarding Commander Zavala. Thanks to a new post on the Bungie website, we have learned that this iconic Destiny character will press on with a new voice.

We knew it was coming—Bungie said it was coming—and now we know exactly what form it will take. Since the launch of Lightfall and its Strand subclass earlier this year, one of its abilities has stood head and shoulders above any other effect in the game: Suspend. With it, you can tie enemies up in suspending green threads, leaving them unable to do pretty much anything except get shot and die. In a year where Bungie wanted to bring the challenge back to Destiny 2, Suspend alone went a long way to nullifying any increase in difficulty.

Destiny 2 is my favorite game of all time, and simultaneously, I absolutely hate it. This is a sentiment that is shared by many across the game’s community, and understandably so. The core of Destiny is just as fun as it has always been. Secret missions, raids, gunplay, art design, and sound leave very little room to complain about, yet it falls well short of the best monetization models — it is shockingly bad to the point many new players don’t want to engage with Destiny 2. 

I’ve been around the block with Bungie, having played Destiny since the original Destiny 1 alpha. And let me tell you: it can be rough! Bungie is a fascinating case study, as they’ve managed to create one of the best-feeling shooters ever made, but haven’t been able to figure out how to run a live service game for nearly nine years. Their recent “State of the Game” blog tests that theory once again.

YouTuber and lore enthusiast James ‘Byf’ Byford now sees the Destiny 2 Lightfall story and campaign content as a “formatting error,” providing a thoughtful reflection on a highly-circulated video he released soon after the DLC’s launch in which he heavily criticized its narrative. With the addition of nearly two seasons’ worth of content in the FPS game since then, Byf has had significant time to ponder the lore further while also digesting Bungie’s feedback on its approach. He shared his thoughts as part of a Destiny 2 lore panel on August 4 as part of the weekend’s Gaming Community Expo content creator-focused conference, which PCGamesN attended in person.

Destiny 2 developer Bungie has a pretty good record in taking down cheat makers, and it’s looking to add another notch to its belt. On Tuesday, Bungie filed a lawsuit in a Seattle court targeting dozens of people allegedly involved in cheat-selling company Ring-1.

Bungie has in recent years been very aggressive in its pursuit of Destiny 2 cheat makers, and not at all shy about saying so. Based on the opening line of its most recent legal action (via Torrentfreak), filed against the makers and sellers of the Ring-1 cheat, it has no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Destiny 2 is a game of many secrets. Since its initial release in 2017, the developers at Bungie have added quite a few neat features here and there. However, there are still secrets unknown to the community — one of these secrets is the Wall of Wishes.

Xur is back again, once again, in Bungie’sDestiny 2. You can find him in the European Dead Zone on Earth, where he’ll remain until tomorrow’s reset. This week, he has The Wardcliff Coil, an Exotic Heavy Rocket Launcher, for 29 Legendary Shards. It’s been around since Year 1 and fires a volley of rockets, automatically reloading when picking up ammo.

Destiny 2 can be a bit of a bloated mass of weapons that players don’t really know what to do with. However, some stand out from the crowd through their versatility in both PvP and PvE, like Pardon Our Dust.

Bungie composer Ella Feingold, who has been orchestrating Destiny since 2015, has posted an image on Instagram of a score sheet with a notable name on it: P. McCartney (spotted by VGC). The title of the composition has been obscured, while the orchestration is credited to Feingold and Jordan Cox, and lest there were any doubt, Feingold's caption reads «Yeah that P. McCartney. That's all I can say for now.» 

The enigmatic Glorbo has evolved beyond World of Warcraft, making his way into the online first-person shooter Destiny 2! Following the hilarity of last week's Glorbo bait, Redditors of the Destiny 2 community doubled down on the ruse by baiting AI web news site Techbriefly into publishing even more (now deleted) absurdity. Just like last time, we need to be abundantly clear that Glorbo isn't real. The character doesn't exist in WoW and hasn't made their way into Destiny 2, but all the AI knows is that it must be important if people are talking about it.

Bungie is deep diving on some of its weapon changes ahead of the launch of Season 22, including bringing back Warden's Law with a new archetype.

As promised, Bungie’s Economy team provided new details on Ritual Activity weapons coming to Destiny 2 in the future. It also confirmed changes to Masterwork materials, specifically increases to their caps. Starting in Season 22, players can stack up to 30 Ascendant Shards and 30 Ascendant Alloys, up from 10 for both. You can also store up to 100 Enhancement Prisms, up from 50.

While Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep will begin winding down in the coming weeks, Season 22 is coming up. Along with the usual new seasonal; activities and weapons, Bungie has announced that the next reprised raid, aka aDestiny 1 raid brought over into the sequel with changes, will go live on September 1st.

Destiny 2’s next reprised raid officially has a launch date. According to the most recent post in Bungie’s This Week in Destiny blog series, the next raid will go live as part of Destiny 2 season 22 on September 1, 2023. Unfortunately, Bungie has still not shared any details on which reprised raid players can expect in the popular FPS game. However, Bungie did release information on what players could expect from the upcoming raid’s Contest Mode rules.

Enterprising World of Warcraft fans took it upon themselves last week to demonstrate that AI is actually AS—that is, absolutely stupid—by making up a new (and, for the record, not real) character named Glorbo, and then posting about it in the WoW subreddit. This had the effect of tricking AI article generators that were trawling the subreddit into «thinking» the character was real, and then creating and posting stories about players who «eagerly anticipate the changes Glorbo will bring to the game.»

Just a short while ago, “glorbo” meant nothing; it was just a silly word. Now, the name is spreading across gaming spheres, becoming a phenomenon. Destiny 2 players are the latest players to exploit the power of Glorbo, and even Bungie is getting in on the act.

In an extremely Destiny 2 moment, Bungie's making a long-requested quality of life change with one hand and removing a handy workaround with the other.

The latest “This Week in Destiny” didn’t provide much news or announcements from Bungie regarding Destiny 2. It makes sense considering the lull in Season of the Deep, with most reveals likely being reserved for next month’s Showcase. However, it did confirm that a new Developer Insights was coming this week.

Vendor of Exotic and Legendary wares, sometimes Agent of the Nine, Xur has returned to the Tower in Bungie’s Destiny 2. He’s in the Hangar until the next weekly reset and has some decent, if unremarkable, wares. The Exotic weapon of the week is Black Talon, a Heavy Void Sword which fires projectiles with its Heavy Attack.

Some Destiny 2 armor mods are disabled after players discovered an “infinite ability” exploit, which effectively granted an endless cycle of Super energy in the FPS game. The exploit allowed Destiny 2 Guardians to gain infinite energy, which they could then leverage for continuous Super and other ability regeneration.

You should no longer lose massive progress because of a misclick.

I don't normally cover Destiny 2 leaks, but the timing of the latest one is so suspicious that I think it's worth a look. Yesterday, a redditor posted a short video to r/Destiny2Leaks that showed a guardian beaming into the H.E.L.M. social space. What's remarkable about the clip is that at the two-second mark we see a few frames of UI that show a completely new super icon. The UI also uses a red colourway not currently found in the game, leading pretty much anyone who watched it to speculate that this might be a glimpse of the game's next subclass. 

In a severe act of deja vu, Destiny 2's next Darkness subclass may have leaked just weeks before its official reveal.

Destiny 2 just dropped a sizable but fairly standard weapon balance patch, and it's had at least one massive winner: Graviton Lance, one of the oldest guns in the game.

In addition to the release of Solstice, Bungie’s Destiny 2 has received update 7.1.5. This mid-season patch contains some balance changes and fixes for Exotics like Stronghold and Blight Ranger. The former wasn’t extending Restoration on blocking shots, instead providing the same when attacking with a sword.

Bungie’s latest limited-time event for Destiny 2 is live with Solstice. As a celebration of sorts, it features the return of the European Aerial Zone, where players can earn Silver Leaves and use them to upgrade new Solstice armor. Check out how it looks in the latest trailer.
