What do you think of when you think of fireworks? For me, it’s the rush of excitement that comes from loud noises and bright, beautiful colors on display. In Skyrockets: Festivals of Fire, you get much of the same experience in a cooperative game that puts you in the role of working with your fellow players to put on a fireworks show for your wizard school.

The next game's protagonist seems like an obvious choice following the success of the Amazon Prime live-action adaptation. Primary stat increasing augment runes are returning in The War Within, with the Crystallized Augment Rune. Hopefully they won't be quite so rare this time around! First added in Warlords of Draenor, Augment Runes are consumables providing a minor increases to strength, intellect, or agility, similar to food buffs in not normally persisting through death but with the added downside of being much less widely available.

You can easily lose hours designing your village and appeasing your citizens in Manor Lords all by yourself. There are so many different avenues to achieve victory, but the only competition or help you can normally find is in the form of NPCs. Other factions around the map can be helpful or harmful depending on how you play, but what if you wanted to team up with a friend to combine resources, or perhaps compete to see who can crush the other first? Many strategy and city builders thrive on multiplayer components, but does Manor Lords offer those same modes? Make sure you know the answer before making your purchase if that’s your intention.

Corey Konieczka, acclaimed board game designer of strategy games such as Star Wars: Rebellionand Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, launched his own studio, Unexpected Games, in 2021. During the Fallout TV series, Walter Goggin's character Cooper Howard holds an infomercial all about the vaults, encouraging viewers to call the on-screen number to get a spot for when the apocalypse finally rears its three ugly radioactive heads. Fallout, the new TV drama based on the post-apocalyptic game series, premiered earlier this week on Prime Video. And instead of directly adapting any of the games (like HBO’s The Last of Us) or creating a separate continuity inspired by the series (à la Paramount Plus’ Halo), Fallout takes a wholly different approach: telling an original story set explicitly within the continuity of the games.

Following the announcement of a renewed partnership to bring Blizzard Entertainment games back to mainland China, NetEase has released further details explaining their plans to support World of Warcraft for their restored playerbase! Included are preparations for various e-sport events, more anti-cheating measures, better support for content creators, and ways for players to earn to missed rewards during Dragonflight. Police in Japan arrested on April 3 a 27-year old man suspected of threatening Nintendo staff, events, and spectators. Due to these threats, Nintendo announced in December it was canceling several events, like Nintendo Live and the Splatoon Koshien 2023 finals, and postponing others. Japanese newspaper the Kyoto Shimbun first reported the arrest. According to the report, the man admitted to the threats.

The next set of cards for Disney Lorcana is called Ursula’s Return, and it will include characters from Encanto for the very first time. The set arrives at local retailers as expected on May 17, with a wider retail release on May 31. The announcement, made live on Twitch Wednesday, also includes news about a brand new two-player game called Illumineers’ Quest.

What's even better is it's coming from Modiphius, a studio with a history of creating some of the best board games that also happen to be adaptations of beloved action RPGs. Taking a look at Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms or their work on the Fallout franchise should give you a good idea of what quality we can expect. Mass Effect the Board Game - Priority: Hagalaz will be a story-focused cooperative experience for 1-4 players. It's designed by Eric M. Lang and Calvin Wong Tze Loon and will be set "during the events of Mass Effect 3." Modiphius has already given some insight into the game's story: "It is the year 2186, and the Reapers have invaded the galaxy. Because the Council ignored Commander Shepard’s warnings, the Citadel Races are overwhelmed and on the verge of losing the war. Aboard the Normandy, Shepard carries out missions to prepare the Crucible, an ancient alien superweapon, for a last-chance attempt to defeat the Reapers." Like the original games, you'll have the freedom to shape your crew's story each time you play: "Card-driven AI and evolving stories respond to your actions – your early choices influence later missions." Hopefully, this'll make for some fun Paragon/Renegade roleplaying.

It was somewhere between my first tour of duty scrapping bots at Malevelon Creek and nuking Termanids on Turing that it occurred to me that the Helldivers’ secret weapon isn’t their mighty fleet or some fancy new weapon: It’s the camaraderie formed with other players when you’re fighting for a shared goal.

Helldivers 2 has had one heck of a time since it was released on Feb. 8, and it’s easy to see why: The third-person shooter is both hilarious and explosively fun. It’s also filled with little moments that add up to one special experience. One example of Helldivers 2’s attention to detail is in its emotes. There are plenty of two-person emotes that emphasize the cooperative experience, including one that lets you play Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Arrowhead Game Studios has promised to compensate players who were not adequately rewarded for their heroic service in Helldivers 2, with promised loot going missing amidst a chaotic launch experience. When you can get a game, the cooperative shooter is some of the most outrageous fun on the market, so this is hugely welcome news.

Helldivers 2 continues to improve on its player figures. After easily topping God of War off the first spot when it comes to PlayStation launches on Steam, the cooperative sci-fi third-person shooter peaked at 155K concurrent users yesterday.

AMD FSR 3 has been added to the cooperative first-person shooter game Starship Troopers: Extermination with Update 0.6.2. The game developed by Offworld Industries (the team behind Squad) debuted on Steam Early Access last May, finding a small but faithful community as shown by the 89% average user review score.

The studio behind Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2, Acquire, has been acquired by none other than Kadokawa Corporation. In effect, this means that Octopath Traveler and Dark Souls are now under the same umbrella, as Kadokawa also owns From Software, for one.

Finally hitting Netflix this week, the road to Maestro has indeed been a long one. The biographical drama which tells the story of the great composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein was originally meant to be helmed by Martin Scorsese. However, choosing instead to focus on his gangster epic The Irishman, Scorsese stepped down and the project soon landed in the hands of none other than Steven Spielberg. Given that at the time he was working on his version of West Side Story, which features music by Bernstein, it just "made sense" as Spielberg’s producing partner Kristie Macosko Krieger tells GamesRadar+.

It’s been a week since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dropped. The game received rave reviews, and gamers are having a ball playing it. The game mechanics are a dream; the graphics are spectacular, especially the spatial layout and design of New York and its surroundings. Gliding and web-slinging through the urban landscapes on a mission is an exhilarating experience. The game is great even if you change characters, like switching from Peter Parker to Miles Morales. Other highlights in the game are the story and Spider-Man’s gadgets. Reviewers can ramble about what’s been great about the game, but sometimes even great games come with problems. One such problem is popping up online from players complaining about a side mission with Hailey Cooper in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
