The next game's protagonist seems like an obvious choice following the success of the Amazon Prime live-action adaptation. The Amazon series followed three main protagonists: Lucy, a naive vault dweller discovering the wasteland for the first time, Maximus, a squire of the Brotherhood of Steel, and Cooper Howard, a former Hollywood actor who mutated into a ghoul after the bombs fell and became a bounty hunter.
[Warning: The following article contains some spoilers for the TV show.]
The latter character has become a fan-favorite, with audiences responding extremely positively to Walton Goggins' performance. The TV show used Cooper Howard as a way to flashback to life before the bombs fell, showing the origins of Vault-Tec's Vault Boy mascot and explaining the meaning behind the iconic thumbs-up imagery. With him being around for hundreds of years, his views of the world were a stark contrast to Lucy's, as he lived through the entire post-apocalypse in the Wasteland.
Each of the numbered, mainline games except for — which followed The Chosen One, who was the grandchild of the first game's protagonist — have followed a vault dweller as they venture out into the wasteland. A new spin-off should let players assume the role of a ghoul, with plenty of story potential. As ghouls have an extended lifespan, the game could span many years or decades instead of days and weeks, showing changes in areas and their populations over time.
Other spin-offs have followed non-Vault dweller protagonists, such as a member of the Brotherhood of Steel in, and a courier in.
There are also several new gameplay elements that could be incorporated by playing as a ghoul. Besides their prolonged lifespans, ghouls are no longer harmed by low-level radiation and even receive physical benefits when exposed to it, but there's also the risk of transforming into a feral ghoul. The TV series — which its creators and Bethesda's Todd Howard have stated is canon to the games — explained that Cooper didn't become a feral due to a chem that has a resemblance to a refillable Jet, so players could have to stock up on these to ensure they don't turn feral after a certain amount of time. It would also provide players with a reason to carry out bounty hunter missions like Cooper does in the show, as some other elements of surviving in the wasteland would be made easier by the ghoul mutations.
Ghouls have always been a mainstay of the franchise and are some of the series' most iconic figures, and with the popularity of the show, players have even started using mods for 's character creator to at least make themselves look like one. Therefore, with the TV show taking the opportunity to tell part of its story from the perspective of one of them
Fallout 4 will receive another patch on all consoles, this time focussing on graphical options.
Bethesda is rolling out a new Fallout 4 update across all platforms on May 13, packing new graphic options, fixes, performance improvements, and more.
The long-awaited next-gen upgrade for launched earlier this month on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Bethesda promised enhancements such as new Performance and Quality mode settings available across all platforms, as well as stability improvements and fixes, but upon its release, there have been complaints of texture issues, crashes, freezes, plummeting framerates, resolution glitches, and more. The issues seem to be worse on PC in general, but many PC players have found their game in an even more broken state due to the number of mods they'd installed over the years that were no longer supported.
Bethesda has detailed the next Starfield update, which includes improved surface maps and new performance options, among other features.
Bethesda Game Studios’ fourth major update for Starfield launches on May 15th with many quality-of-life features and improvements. As director Todd Howard promised, there are “other display modes” for console players, which means you can finally play the game at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X.
Bethesda has said that issues preventing some PlayStation Plus subscribers from accessing Fallout 4’s next-gen update have now been resolved.
Todd Howard has said that Bethesda Game Studios is currently focused on finding ways to increase its output.
Fallout 5 won't start development until after The Elder Scrolls 6 launches, so we're a long way off from the next numbered game in the series, but the Amazon show has ignited a newfound hype in the franchise. So, the question is whether a third party will develop a spin-off akin to Obsidian's New Vegas in the meantime.
Bethesda Game Studios has been promising new content and features for Starfield for a while now, and though updates for the space-faring RPG haven’t been as significant as many would have hoped, more new details have emerged on when to expect some of that. Shattered Space, for instance – which will be Starfield’s first paid expansion – has been given a narrower launch window.
It’s been six years since Fallout 76 came out, and close to a decade since Fallout 4. Even if fervour surrounding the franchise wasn’t as high as it is right now thanks to the wild success of Amazon Prime’s Fallout series, demand for a new game would still be ravenous, but in the aftermath of the show, that feels doubly true. And even though it’s clearly going to be a while (to say the least) before that long-awaited new game releases, it seems like Bethesda might actually have two unannounced Fallout projects in the works in some capacity.
Walton Goggins' Cooper «The Ghoul» Howard is undoubtedly the break-out character of Prime Video's series and fans of the show who are desperate to roam around as the gunslinger can now do so thanks to an impressive new mod. Given the sheer amount of customization options available to players in Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG, it stands to reason that someone would eventually conjure up a convincing take on The Ghoul. However, since the base game doesn't allow players to become Ghouls, some modding is necessary to achieve the desired look.
now has an iconic ship from the prequel trilogy, thanks to a mod. Considering Bethesda's space RPG lets players explore several star systems and planets in a variety of ships, it should come as no surprise that there's been no shortage of mods incorporating elements of other fan-favorite sci-fi franchises.
