Between all the details aboutStarfield, Bethesda Game Studios’ first new IP in almost three decades, it’s easy to forget the developer’s other big title – The Elder Scrolls 6. Announced back in 2018, the fantasy RPG is arguably an even bigger deal since it’s following one of the biggest titles ever, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
Director Todd Howard spoke about directing the title to GQ and whether he regretted announcing it too early. “I have asked myself that a lot. I don’t know. I probably would’ve announced it more casually.” Interestingly, there is a code name, which Howard likes to say out loud but won’t publicly reveal it.
He revealed the team wants it to be the “ultimate fantasy-world simulator.” “It’s like… I don’t want to answer, but I want to be polite. I will say that we want it to fill the role of the ultimate fantasy-world simulator. And there are different ways to accomplish that given the time that has passed.”
The Elder Scrolls 6 doesn’t have a release window, though Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencerbelieves it’s over five years away. Howard also feels it may be the last title in the series that he directs, though time will tell.
In the meantime, Starfield launches on September 6th for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s confirmed to ship with New Game Plus, which offers a “unique and exciting twist” to “incentivize continued and repeat play.” Stay tuned for more details, hopefully before the game’s release.
