Assassin's Creed Mirage launched in October last year, offering a pared back, back-to-the basics experience reminiscent of older games in the series. The action-adventure title from Ubisoft took players to 9th-century Baghdad, putting them in the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones and rises through the ranks to become a master assassin. While there's no word on if the franchise will revisit the character again, Assassin's Creed Mirage creative director has said that the team has ideas about where Basim's story could go.

Eivor's Raven Clan outfit from Assassin's Creed Valhalla has become available for Assassin's Creed Mirage players to redeem and equip with Basim. Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which was released back in 2020, was Ubisoft's latest large-scaled RPG-style Assassin's Creed game. Set during the Viking age of Anglo-Saxon England, Valhalla introduced a new assassin, named Eivor, who was part of the Raven Clan.

Abubakar Salim, the actor who portrayed Bayek of Siwa, protagonist of Ubisoft's acclaimed Assassin's Creed Origins, has expressed interest in bringing Bayek back for a follow-up sequel. Assassin's Creed Origins came out in 2017 to glowing reviews as it set a new precedent for the long-running franchise with its budding RPG elements, laying the groundwork for Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla to lean further into RPG territory.

Finding the best and worst games means looking over all thirteen main entries in the series, dating from the most recent release back to 2007. This can make it difficult for newcomers to know where to begin, particularly when one wants to experience the best story and avoid the games that might leave one disappointed. Ubisoft has also launched multiple mobile games and spin-off titles that take place within the franchise, but it is a bit unfair to compare them to their AAA counterparts.

It’s something Eivor, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s main character, states outright when she declines to conceal her assassin’s blade under her cloak. She wants her enemies to know what’s coming. It makes sense for Valhalla to be the Assassin’s Creed game that deviates from the well-established loop of tedious, precise stealth-based missions that Ubisoft has relied on with the series since its inception. This game is a Viking game, and Vikings aren’t known for their subtlety; in Valhalla, Eivor has her not-so-hidden blade, yes, but also an ax or heavy broadsword.

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage has offered a luminous example of how Muslim representation can be, along with its Arab, Persian, and broader SWANA representation. For one of the region’s most prominent religions, Islam, the game offers Muslim and non-Muslim players worldwide not only positive Muslim representation, but the depiction of an entire Islamic civilization. No one is the token Muslim. Islam is gracefully designed into the fabric of Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, from our Muslim protagonist Basim Ibn Ishaq, to various members of his society, to sprawling Masjids, architecture, and art covering 9th Century Abbasid Baghdad. While Islam is the main religion depicted in Mirage, other religious minorities like Christians also appear in the city, as Baghdad was a highly diverse city as well at the center of trade. The Silk Road spanned all of Asia, North Africa, and beyond, and the religions across the regions.

Not to be harsh, but I was never fond of Assassin's Creed's little detour into the endless open world meta in recent years. A series that was once lauded for its clinical stealth-based killings had slowly morphed into a reckless RPG with greater emphasis on quest hoarding, gear system, and heavy-handed combat. The new Assassin Creed games carried such little resemblance to the early titles in the franchise that if Ubisoft were to strategically rebrand it, no one would raise questions. Sure, they fared well commercially, but with time, the formula got stale and a desperate need for a refresh was never more apparent. And so, the studio's solution is to revisit its glory days and create a familiar Assassin's Creed experience that caters to loyalists by turning a once-destined AC Valhalla DLC into a standalone experience — a throwback set in the dusty but vibrant locale of ninth-century Baghdad.

Though the latest installment in the series has a limited supply of unique outfits and costumes when compared with previous installments, the developer has evidently elected to value quality over quantity as the vast majority of 's apparel options are exceptionally well-designed — though, inevitably, some are so much better than others.

In an attempt to impress them, Basim and childhood friend Nehal try to steal from the Caliph's palace, but when things go south, Nehal winds up killing the Caliph.

will see the franchise returning to the Middle East with a smaller, more stealth-focused title set in 9th-century Baghdad. Its story follows a 17-year-old Basim Ibn Ishaq long before he appeared as a fully-fledged Master Assassin in In, Basim works alongside his mentor Roshan to take down members of The Order of the Ancients, rising up from being a street thief to a member of The Ancient Ones in the process.

has been a return to the franchise's roots, with a smaller, more stealth-focused title set in a stunning recreation of Baghdad in the year 861. The title tells the origin of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character who was introduced in the franchise's last title,, by which time he was already a Master Assassin on his travels to Norway​​​​​.

As I watched the evening take hold of the city of Baghdad, standing atop a domed building, I heard the growing sound of the Muslim call to prayer, the athaan. The chant bathed the city — a sonic reminder to Baghdad’s citizens of their religious duties. Assassin’s Creed fans are waiting on the next mainline installment to release into the marketplace. We know that this next game is coming in October, but most recently, there were a few headlines that popped up. A leak revealed a cosmetic microtransaction that would be featured in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Since then, there was a wonder as to how far Ubisoft would be taking microtransactions for their upcoming video game. Now we finally have a statement to confirm microtransactions are coming and what players can expect from them.

Are you looking for a new video game to play this weekend? For some, we might be in a bit of limbo here. We can’t wait to play several great video games in the coming months.
